The merging of thc.se two institutions with diverse histories, racial compositions and educational thrusts is significant as a development of higher education in America. It merges the rich traditions of both institutions and creates for the public a major comprehensive urban university. We have a challenge to bridge the accomplishments of the past, to innovate for the future and to design a campus environment that will continue the University's legacy of greatness. If we can accomplish these objectives, we can build a TSU that will continue to justify pride by its products and which will be a symbol that in this state and in the nation all people can learn, live and work together in a harmonious and healthy environment. As we move the institution into the 80's, I believe there are bright promises and great challenges ahead. It will take a special effort to merge the differences of the past to make them a oneness.
