Sr. President Andrew Torrence announces His Resignation . . .“With deep regret and great hope for the future of this institution. I tendered my resignation as president of Tennessee State University, President Torrence told more than 1.000 TSU students, faculty and staff members during a convocation in the Administration Building's auditorium on the 4th of April, 1974. “My tenure here has been challenging and personally satisfying. I love my work. I love the institution, my alma mater. I love its people, whose dedication and devotion have been sources of gratification for me. He added, I have decided to leave because, after reflection and planning for my own future, I have concluded that if I am to pursue another one of my loves, that of research, contemplation and writing. I must begin now. My decision to resign as TSU's president stems mainly from my desire to return to scholarly pursuits. “During my 14-year tenure at Tuskegee Institute. I was able, for example, to contribute widely to the professional literature and was co-author of three books. I have been asked to serve as executive vice- president and distinguished professor at Tuskegee and have accepted that position, which will provide an opportunity for me once again to make a contribution as administrator, teacher and writer. .. . I have not had the time to be husband and father as well as president of Tennessee State University. In fairness to you and to myself and most of all in fairness to what is required to continue to build and maintain dynamic programs and services at the university. I would not want to devote less time than is necessary for the tremendous task ahead. “I can say. with a great deal of pride and with an equal amount of humility and gratitude, that there has been considerable growth at Tennessee State University during the 5Vi years I have been president. I do not want to say here that we have reached the millennium, but we have turned the corner; we have been able to build on the firm foundation laid by my predecessors. Dr. William J. Hale and Dr. Walter S. Davis. Dr. Charles B. Fancher Vice President for Academic Affairs IN MEMORY OF DR. LEONARD C. ARCHER IN MEMORY OF RONALD LEE JOYCE Dr. Thomas A.
