Tennessee Preparatory School was founded in 1885 by the late Colonel E.W. Cole as a memorial to his son, Randall, who was killed in an accident at the age of nineteen. T.P.S. is part of the Tennessee State Board of Education. Dependent and neglected children, ages twelve to eighteen, from all areas of Tennessee are placed here. The children are provided with housing, food, clothing, education, extra- curricular activities are also available for those who wish to participate. T.P.S. has been a member of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools since 1935. A well balanced curriculum, offering individualized programming as well as college preparatory courses and vocational training classes, is offered to the students enrolled here. Many T.P.S. graduates have continued their education and hold degrees from such institutions as Auburn, Peabody, Tennessee Tech, University of Tennessee, and Vanderbilt, and have become prominent in the business community as well as good leaders in other fields. ln keeping with its purpose, T.P.S. has been home for thousands. Much growth and many changes have occurred over superintendents. This year marks the completion of an exten- sive building program which created residential cottages and new school facilities for all students. The future will continue to hold many improvements as we strive to provide the very best we can for those students enrolled here.
