I I THE TENNESSEE PREPARATORY SCHOOL WAS FOUNDED IN 1885, BY THE LATE COLO- NEL E.W. COLE, AS A MEMORIAL TO HIS SON RANDALL, WHO WAS KILLED ACCIDENTALLY AT AGE NINETEEN. TODAY IT IS CONSIDERED PART OF THE SPECIAL SCHOOLS DIVISION OF THE TENNESSEE DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION. DEPENTENT CHILDREN, AGES SIX TO EIGHTEEN, FROM ALL AREAS OF TENNESSEE, ARE PLACED HERE. THE CHILDREN ARE PROVIDED HOUSING, FOOD, CLOTHING, EDUCATION, MEDICAL, AND DENTAL SERVICES, AND COUNSELING PROGRAMS. EXTRA-CURRICULUM ACTIVITIES ARE AVAILABE FOR THOSE WISHING TO PARTICIPATE. THE SCHOOL HAS BEEN A MEMBER OF THE SOUTHERN ASSOCIATION OF COLLEGES AND SCHOOLS SINCE 1935. MANY T.P.S. GRADUATES HAVE CONTINUED THEIR EDUCA- TION AND HOLD DEGREES FROM SUCH INSTITUTIONS AS AUBURN, VANDERBILT, TENNES- SEE TECH, GEORGE PEABODY, UNIVERSITY OF TENNESSEE, AND MANY OTHERS. THE SCHOOL HAS A WELL BALLANCED CURRICULUM, OFFERING NOT ONLY INDIVIDUALIZED PROGRAMMING AND COLLEGE PREPARATORY COURSES BUT ALSO A NUMBER OF VOCA- TIONAL TRAINING CLASSES. TENNESSEE PREPARATORY SCHOOL HAS BEEN THE HOME FOR THOUSANDS. IT HAS SEEN MUCH GROWTH AND MANY CHANGES UNDER THE LEADERSHIP OF DEDICATED AND CAPABLE SUPERINTENDENTS. OWING TO THE HARD WORK AND PERSISTENCY OF OUR PRESENT SUPERINTENDENT, DR. A.J. RUMBAUGH, WE WILL SOON SEE THE BEGINNING OF THE BUILDING PROGRAM OF ALL NEW AND INOVATIVE FACILITIES TO COMPLEMENT EXISTING AND NEW, PROGRESSIVE PROGRAMS ON T.P.S. CAMPUS.
