Lin was brought to Tenn. High-by the AFS Club in Bristol. She is 18 years old and a senior. Lin is Tenn. High’s second foreign exchange student, and is currently living with the Ed Loud family. At her school in Johannesburg, Lin was class captain for 3 years, hockey captain, tennis vice-captain, an AFS member, a Drama Club member, and in the Choir. She is a member of the Anchor Club and AFS club here at Tenn. High. Lin visits various civic clubs and organizations speaking about her home in South Africa. On March 7-9, Lin helped host an AFS weekend. The weekend was held for 12 other AFS students from the surrounding schools. The weekend was high- lighted by a banquet and dance on Friday night. On Saturday the students hiked on the Appalachian Trail, went bowling, and had a party at the Loud’s home. We hope that Lin has enjoyed her stay at Tenn. High as much as we have enjoyed having her. 36 Lin arrives from South Africa on July 3. eer Lin looks pleased with her new home. A party for Lin in chemistry class. OH, 38 i i i : H § t ; Sk 8 . Be it simple addition or complicated trigonometric functions, the study of mathe- matics is essential for work after high school. At Tenn. High, courses are offered in Algebra I, Algebra I], Geome- try, Trigonometry, and Pre- Calculus. In dealing with five dollars or five thousand dol- lars, math provides a back- ground basic to a well-round- ed high school study. Mrs. Rolen helps cheer the wrestling team on to victory. BUSINESS DEPARTMENT The economic society could not prosper with- out the business world, an area which affects ev- ery facet of life, at home as well as abroad. Without men and women who fully comprehend the money areas of the business world, other fields would slow to a grinding halt. Listed in this department are Typing, Shorthand, Bookkeeping, Business Math, Business English, and Distributive Education. Marvin Evans Carl Jenkins Jean Thomasson 145 MUSIC DEPARTMENT Tenn. High has an exceptional music department. The band—marching as well as playing—has earned a No. 1 rating in all competition, and was selected to march in an Atlanta Falcon pre-game show and Gov. Blanton’s inaugural parade. The Choral Department toured various churches and civic organizations. The Chorus partici- pated in a music festival at Milligan College, while the Concert Choir performed at Disney World and produced:.a musical comedy. General Science, Biology I, Chemistry, Biology II, and Physics, are the courses offered in this department at T. H. S. Each provides insight into the difficult problems arresting the world. With a foundation in the sciences, students are more able to cope with problems facing the world—both environmentally and psy- chologically. It can be summed up very simply—preventing today’s mistakes from becoming tomorrow’s catastrophies. All students are required to have one year of American History, for certainly its benefits are many. Helping students learn from their forefathers leads them towards the bet- terment of the world. Lorraine Guinn Eddie McLemore 149 FOREIGN LANGUAGE DEPARTMENT Three lang uage courses, Spanish, Latin, and French, have been offered this year at T. H.S. Many feel that by learning a foreign language they may experience a way of life of foreign countries. In gaining this new insight, students learn that their ideals and standards are held by men and women throughout the world; language is a universal teaching. Through this study, students are provided with a foundation for education and upholding world peace. é Raia. Mr. Cannon answers students’ questions during class. ' Jim Cannon Georgia S. Hundreds of fans crowded the stadium in eager anticipation, waiting for the start of the game. This year the Vikings won seven of ten games and succeeded in avenging their defeat against Science Hill last year. Ten players were named to the All Big Nine team this year.
