Students are encouraged to expand their vocabularies, reading comprehension, grammar usage, speech activities, spelling, and punctuation. Four years of English are required for graduation from THS. In these four years of learning, many of our personalities, which will stay with us for the rest of our lives, are developed in English Class. Algebra Il, Geometry, and Trigonometry are offered for students who may be nterested in using Math in a career. These courses also stimulate students to think logically. Many of the patterns applied in hese classes aid in strengthening reasoning powers. To further one’s knowledge of Science, other courses including Biology I, Biology II, Chemistry, and Physics are available. Biology I and II, offering a study of all living matter, enable students to become more familiar with plant and animal life cycles. Chemistry, requiring at least Algebra II, gives quantitative and qualitative analyses of the Chemical elements and reactions. In Typing I, basic techniques such as typing letters, bulletins, and outlines are learned. Second year typing provides for the more interested students to work in situations dealing with specific job problems. Shorthand students interpret abbreviated forms of words and learn to take dictation. DE students are able to work part of the day while still attending school at regular hours. V OE is a perfect opportunity for students who want to get ahead in the business practices, These students learn to operate adding machines, transcribers, among other office equipment. Business Math, Business Law, General Business, and Bookkeeping are also excellent courses offered in the Business Department. Individuals are encouraged to use their imaginations, shuck off their inhibitions, and create. Art students learn to appreciate the beauty of even the simplest and most common shapes. Students experiment with painting, drawing, sculpturing, and modeling clay, which produce some interesting and original pieces. The Choral Groups are also an asset to the student body. The choral students have an oppor- tunity to improve their vocal techniques, and are exposed to almost every kind of music from classical to modern. For the students interested in the technical side of music, a musical theory class is offered. Students themselves experiment with melody, and write original themes.
