Under the capable di- rection of Head Coach Fred Keller, Coach Tom Hundley, and Coach Bill Bingham, the Norse- men turned in an impressive 5-4-1 worksheet. In the season’s opener the Vikings powered their way to an easy victory over an out- classed Jonesboro team. The following week the Norsemen won over Greeneville. Baylor Prep then handed THS its first loss with a last minute field goal. Recovering from this loss, the defensive minded Vikings held a state-ranked Johnson City team to a scoreless tie. In their next game the Norsemen were defeated by a powerful Sevierville team. Returning home for their next game, the Vikings upset state-ranked Elizabethton by a margin of 13-7. At the end of the Erwin game, the Norsemen found themselves on the short end of a 0- 6margin in a heart-breaking upset. The following week, however, the Vikings clinched second place in the Big Seven by defeating Morristown. A highly favored Kingsport then rolled past the injured Vikings. In the final game of the season, Fred Keller’s Vikings trounced the outclassed Bear- cats by a score of 27 to 13 and regained the coveted City Championship. = With Charlie Wolfe and Delmar Harrington leading the way, David Booher returns a Elizabethton punt for a TD. 46 Randy Jessee scores the first TD of the year in the Vikings’ opener with Fred Keller discusses the Norsemen’s defense Jonesboro. with Mike Burnette. a7 Managers: Skip Gillespie, Jim Brown, Garland White, Tom- my Pulliam. 48 game. In one short day we became a true part of Tennessee High School and her tradition. Although the ring itself has great symbolic value, the specific parts each hold a meaning of their own. The school, chosen for his- torical and sentimental reasons, reminds us of fond and _ cherished school days. The size and ruggedness of the ring are to depict our strength and growth both physically and mentally. Our identification encircles the stone in a final touch of beauty and richness of charac- ter. The shield represents the honor of the school, an outward sym- bol of the high ideals that our Alma Mater holds for cach of us. The axes represent the constant willingness that must be part of every stu- dent to see that the honor of the shield is kept forever.
