I- THIS issue of the Tenakin is gratefully dedicated to Mrs. Julia E. Yagood, who was our friend and ad- visor during our Freshman, Sophomore and Junior Years at Tenatly High School. We hope that this will help to express our appreciation of her untiring assist- ance during this important period of our high school life. on ,,itei ,. L UR country is now at war, a war which we, the Tena- kin Staff of l943, and all other seniors, deeply re- gret. However, we realize this conflict is necessary to re-establish on this earth of ours a lasting peace and jus- tice for all mankind. We, the Class of l943, leave this high school determined to do all in our power to assist our national government in bringing peace on earth, good will towards man. One minor unforseen result of this war has been the curtailment of many activities and services which, in the past, have made the publication of the Tenakin possible. The I943 Staff has made every effort to have this vol- ume complete, but in several instances this has been practically impossible. We hope you will like this book as it is, realizing the difficulties and set-backs we have had to overcome, some of which, at times, seemed almost unsurmountable. -THE STAFF Mr. W-'ghe ' 0-on.. -vt- 'M Kiki M - Jer, 5 Miss Wwxn ,fu V hz ' Miss Shearer iss Cubbefw' Ml Miss Mu sl 4 Chen I Mrs I The Duberxsvsxf- Mr. Kipp Miss Grahn, Miss Har mi'lml weaves' Mfr Doonan, Miss Aubrey. Gazing over the audience we see Jo Schwarzmann, who has taken over the former Disney Studios, accompanied by Budd Grahn, an Eastern Senator. ln their party is Fred Jenkins, Hollywood straight man, Woo Gillette, popular singing star, Ted Holland, technical engineer, Dot Dobson, social worker, Ed Holden, business man, and Mary Bradley, business woman. Other Easterners in the audience are Helenmae Harold, Helen Wollerman, Jeanne Arndt, and their husbands. l ' Outside the Theater, Dave Jensen, popular N. B. C. announcer, is waiting to introduce the celebrities of the evening. The first to the microphone are the stars, Hank Vilas and Jayne Walpole, coming to premiere their latest presentation, Dracula Takes A Bride. The authors, Janice Esseks, Jo Kirkland, and Stewart Roscher, are followed by the director, Bill Boorn, and the producer. After the supporting stars, come those on the technical end of the production, George Voorhees, Alfred Roloff, Bob Fuller, Leroy Allen, and others. The crystal ball grows misty and the scene slowly changes to the parlor of the spacious home of Miriam Walinen, where she and a group of her political advisors are listening to the premiere. Those present are: Fran Musimeci, Jo Maragliano, Jean Colognato, Kay Griffin, Gloria Fitzpatrick, Eleanor Klink, and Mary Muggeo. ln the rurnpus room of her home, Miriam's husband is entertaining a group of his friends in poker game. They are: Dick Martini, Cocktail King, commercial artist Bert Laux, Automobile manufacturer Bob Page, and card sharp Bill Squire. Again Madame Tigre's crystalin sphere darkens and the scene shifts to a cabin in the Maine Woods where a group of hunters are listening. Gathered around their television set are: Henry Muller, Gil de Marais, .lack Westervelt, Armand Vignoli, Bud Giordono, Jack Shea, and Jack Vickers, who are all enjoying their well-earned vacation, moose-hunting. The scene shifts back to Tenafly, where a group of alumnae are holding a reunion. Gathered around the radio we see Shirley Judd, Marilyn Kraemer, Claire Lapwing, Lydia Finetto, Ginny Lehmkuhl, Pat Rekow, Gloria Martineaud, Cecilia McGrory, and Mary Minnihane, who are now all wives and mothers. Art Raque, Angelo D'lmperio, Ray Anrig, Johnny Hindle, and Howard Siegmann, all New York business men, are sitting in one corner of the room. The largest group is where Ginny Welles and Marie PurdLe are playing Tenafly pep songs at the piano. Those singing are: Betty Winter, well-fare worker, Joe Wilkin and John Manz, drug- gists, nurses Edith Key and Teddy Blackwell, Kay Lawrence, proprietor of the local antique shop, Ludwig Luck, Mayor of Norwood, Lillian Mayer, Broadway dancer, Norton Rogers, movie manager, and Betty Myers, the life of the party. In another room of the house there is a group of dancers. Those dancing are: Bea Abbott and mechanic Warren Jones, Gretchen Hess- 70 , L ti XXX! 5.-Q mer and business man Olin Denecke, Margaret Baumann and Councilman Tom Beattie, Doris Herter and cleaner Joe Smith, Anita Berrell and Cigar Store Proprietor Elmer Nabstedt, and Joan Geraghty and grocer Bob Harand. ln the kitchen discussing the latest tunes land something to eatl are Graziano Roviaro, clarinetist with Raymond Paige's orchestra, Joe Sposa, who has his own band, Bev Henninger, church organist, Doris Brassel, pianist, and Doris Benjamin, saxaphonist with Spike Jones. Also in the kitchen are: Dot Samuels, Ginny Shoemaker, and Gloria Bruttomesso, commercial artists. A game of tiddely winks between Demo Amicucci, Henry Rakowski, and Mait Elliot, Ford workers, is the center of attraction for many famous people at the party. Standing around this group are teachers Helen White and Marion Squire, Ruth Volk, Missionary, Writer Edith Coons, Madeline Friederick, social worker, Lois Garrelts, interior decorator, Vernon Heckle of Wall Street, Bob Vallari, railroad engineer, Benny Blue, sports commentator, and railroad worker, Bob Crotchfelt. ln the breakfast room, discussing the latest recipes, are housewives Alice Henry, Helen Rothaker, Helen Rockwell, and Ethel Schimpf. ' The vision changes and again we find ourselves at the premiere, Dracula Takes A Bride has just played and the newsreel is about to be run. Because of this, Bob Wood and Wanda Gasch, sports critics, have just entered. First on the reel is a science conference. Discussing the future of rocket ships as a way to Mars are: Claire Van Wagner, Roger Bissell, Tim Driscoll, Carl Hallden, Garrett Seale, Joe Wrozina, and Bob Gasch. Next comes a short on that famous program Facts Please, sponsored by Elmendorfs' Oaties, The artists for the occasion are: Betty Farnum, famous Broadway actress, Charles Rich, famous mathematical genius, Hannah Zinser of the Metropolitan, Emily Bitcover, authority on foreign languages, Anne Hodgekins, college professor, and Bill Fleet and Gloria Morgan, stars of that famous comedy serial, The Broom and the Pillow. Those seen in the film are: Flo Bethmann, authority on poise, Marion Eiskamp, beauty advisor, Shirlee Horn, dress designer, and Muriel McDonald, director of a beauty school. After this comes the Sports Parade with Don Fletcher as narrator. First shown is a golf foursome of Alex Power, Frank Muggeo, Charles Boenau, and Art Raque. Next, the skating race which made Bob Jahn famous is shown. Following this is the women's swimming race between Amy Bacon, Marjorie Munro, and Joan Kelly. The mirage fades and as the mist clears away we see Alfred Cioffi, and Albert Butti, supervising in the printing room of the World Times, where the South African Edition is being Set in print. Other names from Tenafly on the staff are Mary Burnham and Betty Smith, woman's page editors, Fran Valentine, society editor, Betsy Hogan and Barbara McGrath, news reporters, and Jean Mould, editor of the hobby column. Due to a cloudiness in the crystal ball, it is impossible to read the reviews. Now that Madame Tigres' two pages are used up, she packs up her crystal ball, and departs from Tenafly High, as does the Class of l943. 7l , n..........,.,,,,,, L -N- K ip t offs G.f lf really didn'f work9Lyyf S ,xx J 33 M 22 5 A UF! f .ff . f ' E ?
