. . . AND THEN, YOUR FRIENDLY PRESIDENT TEMPLE PRESIDENT, Dr. Marvin Wachman The Class of 1974 began its educational journey at Temple University at a turbulent time, in a nation struggling with an unpopular war and social unrest. You ended your brief stay here as alumni, in a nation now profoundly troubled by one of the worst political scandals of its 200-year old history. But, surprisingly, there is little cynicism in the class of 74. In fact, I think your mood is just the opposite. To me. it seems to be seasoned with optimism and hope for the future, and accompanied by a new awareness of your individual responsibilities as citizens. A democracy thrives best when it has informed, educated people who can think for themselves, reason, and make decisions based on a sense of values. The diploma you worked so hard for is therefore only one benchmark in a life-long search for values and ideas. In that continuing search, all of us at Temple wish you the very best.

BUT FIRST, A WORD FROM YOUR EDITORS . . . Most of us entered Temple just as the era of Woodstock was dying out. Apathy was the biggest subject (or rather non-subject) for the Class of 74. For most of our class, the lack of a yearbook was quite appropriate. Who the Hell needs one?” was replaced by Who Cares? . Somewhere under the tons of ignorance (God only knows where) a flicker of hope survived. Through the Student Senate, a handful of students got together with the administration and Merin Studios to put this book together. With a little bit of ass-kicking and hair-pulling and a lot of blood, sweat, etc., we got it all together. We didn't hurt anyone with it: we didn’t force it on anyone, and we proved that there were enough people interested enough to have their pictures taken for this book. So the next time someone says, Who the Hell cares?”, think about it for awhile. Who Cares? YOU DO! That's why you’re reading this now.
