Each of you has just completed the most challenging four years of your young lives and I want to congratulate you. More than that, however. I want to tell you that you are the Temple University School of Podiatnc Medicine While it is true that we have classrooms, dormitories, clinics and laboratories, a school without the life and energy of the student is a single purpose building whose purpose has disappeared. You entered TUSPM in a time of transition. You have seen new faculty, new facilities and the positive growth that affiliation with Temple’s Health System affords. During the past four years, this was your school, but in a larger sense, John A. Mattiacci, DPM you became the school. As you leave us here in Philadelphia and begin post graduate training or practice; you take the school with you. You will forever be identified as a Temple University school graduate. Because of this, you and TUSPM will always be connected. We have helped you to cam the finest education in the nation. We have given you clinical experience that is unrivaled in the history of our profession and w'e have bestowed upon you the degree of Doctor of Podiatric Medicine Now it is your turn. Because you will always be a TUSPM alumnus, we look to you to carry that degree with competence, compassion, and ultimately, success. You now enter a career in which your patient and his or her condition will demand your attention. As you build a practice and you expand your roots in the community that you choose. I ask that you never forget the roots that you leave here at TUSPM. 1 want you to wear the degree that we have bestowed upon you with pride and 1 challenge you to use that degree to the benefit of both your practice and your alma mater. I want you to join your class alumni association and maintain connection with your class mates. I want you to come back to Philadelphia to visit us periodically and I want you to visit us on the web consistently. Wherever you go in your life, you take our name and you remain our graduate. Never forget that because we will never forget you and the time that you have spent here. Go now and apply those skills that you gained here. Be diligent. Be tenacious. Be inquisitive and be successful. You are now a permanent part of the Temple University School of Podiatric Medicine. 8 Temple School of Podiatric Medicine imveWzL c M ASSOCIATE DEAN School of Podiatric Medicine TEMPLE UNIVERSITY J m 9. Graduates of the Class of 2007: As I write this, some six months in advance of your commencement ceremony, I am unsure how to address you. I know this yearbook will be published and available prior to your graduation, per se. However, I am confident that each of you. having completed a rigorous course of study, will receive the degree of Doctor of Podiatric Medicine by the time this letter is intended to be read. Therefore, I think it is appropriate to address you as my colleagues now for the first time instead of as my students, and I am grateful for the opportunity to do so. I have been fortunate in becoming a faculty member at TUSPM and to have witnessed the profound transformations that accompanied your journeys from first year students to fledging doctors. Observing this metamorphosis has always been the most rewarding part of my work. In this. I am sure that I speak, not for myself, but for the entire faculty of the Temple University School of Podiatric Medicine. You have undergone rigorous training, more on par with that in any other medical discipline than before in the history of Podiatric Medicine, and far more so than that now afforded at any of the other schools and colleges in our profession. Despite the meticulous planning and contingency analyses that preceded the implementation of our new curriculum there have been “growing pains but you have adapted and overcome each of them. You have a right to be proud of your achievements. I am envious of the training you have received for, while I wished for it as a student myself, it was not to be. 1 have several personal requests to make of each of you at this time. First, please let us know of your accomplishments in the future. Second, never hesitate to call upon any of us if we can be of assistance in your future endeavors. Finally, go forth and make us proud! Congratulations on your accomplishments and best wishes for success in your personal lives and professional careers. J2i’ Samuel J. Spadone, D.P.M. Larry M. Newman, DPM, You are to be congratulated because this is a great achievement and it could only have _ . happened through hard work and dedication. I MUirtw Remember that graduation is a commencement and is actually a new beginning and by all accounts you’re in a tremendous position at this time for a wonderful professional future. Hopefully, the further you get into your post graduate experiences in your professional life, you will come to appreciate even more the foundation that was laid during your four years of podiatric medical school. The advantages that you will have in the coming years should be embraced with open arms and hopefully you will all continue to be life-long learners. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails. But where there arc prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away. For we know in part and we prophesy in part, but when perfection comes, the imperfect disappears. When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put childish ways behind me. Now we see but a poor reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now 1 know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known. And now these three remain; faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.
