It was fast becoming obvious that we needed a spokesperson, no male chauvinism for us. We needed to elect a class prez. It was a difficult task. Who wanted the job? It was a choice between anatomy and political warfare at school. A dark horse candidate won and Burnsy was left with the honor. He spent more time arguing with Dr. Davidheiser over histology than he did fighting off girls at Watsons, that adored those baby blue eyes. Surprise, he wears colored contacts. Remember when we block voted Gary Greenberg into PPSA. or the raffle for PEPACK. All the ticket stubs had S. Samet's name. 4

ers for light and warmth. We were a very close class that winter, we huddled togethr just to stay warm Turner with the help of Talrnagc Jacobs used to turn ahead the clock on the wall to avoid frostbite We did have a reserve section for the pipe smokers. Turner. Sokoloff, Snyder and Maguire I think they smoked u pipe just to keep their hands warm. Standard equipment for class was a pair of binoculars, because we were so far back, it was impossible to see the Professor or even hear them. Sometimes that was good, sometimes that was bad Sometimes that was to our advantage. Slide woman could't believe that a Ph D. knew how to turn on a slide projector, but you could always count on her for 3 piece of chalk Then there was Dr. S L Pilkow The S.L. stood for Stcin-I.eventhal. Dr Pilkow was really trying to follow in the foot steps of Johnson and Masters It took Dr Pitkow so long to hand out exams, he would get the different colored tests mixed up. that the students in the front row finished before the ones in the back ever received their exams. The Old Man introduced us to a new game called Russian Roulette We were each given a number, no longer a name, just a number. So much for personalized education We had gotten the 8th street dash down to 3 minutes flat, from the church to the old school, up 2 flights of stairs to see our number and grade posted How they ever got the grades posted in 5 minutes remains a secret. Do you remember in Anatomy dissection when Mike Ccntrclla asked Dr. Harford how long should we spend on the thigh muscles and he answered How long is a piece of string . Darryl asked him where the cadavers would be buried and he answered, In the ground, where else? How many times we studied the os innominatum and never once got a test on it. In Greek, os innominatum means ‘no name’, but I think it means no test. How we used to hold our breath and pray when Dr. Harford would open his briefcase and stand in front of the room and decide which half of the class would leave for those ‘surprise' quizes. Lots of us would never have passed anatomy if it weren't for those extra 20 minutes. We used to try and outguess him. but they don't call him the old man for nothing. It was like a football pool: would it be arteries vs. bones or bones vs. muscles. One thing you will never forget is that the femur is the longest and strongest bone in the body Learning which way the borders went was like learning football plays: the linca aspeara. goes medially. shoots off laterally, takes a sharp turn at the tubercle and heads toward the goal line. Histology was taught by Dr. David Eisenhower. His multiple, multiple choice exams left us with nothing to hang our hat on The Amtrack pods from our nation's capitol. Lyons and Shapiro (sounds like a law firm), taught us what j wart and a corn looked like and how much we got paid to remove them We also learned that Podiatry is a very lucrative profession that could provide you with vacations and Jaguars. Don't forget Ccntrclla's impersonations of Shapiros trips.

Il was not long before the da» began to breakdown — into groups that is. The JAPS. Jewish American Podiatry Students; Folbaum, Jay. Sokoloff. Ornstein. Orowitz. Finer, the Watson Gang, also known as the James Gang; Burns and Ccntrella, the Southern Rebels; Davis. Hoover. Hatcher. I.angford and Bell, as a token Northerner and the Twins. Goldberg and Grotsky There was Barbara and her disciples, and last, but not least the Bridge Team, with Wolf. Orn-stcin. DeFco and Orowitz. Special mention to Walt Murphy ‘'Father of the Year and Jeff Kaplan our Magician-in-Residcncc. That first year we traded a bottle of Heineken and Sunday football games for the Jefferson Library and a bag of bones. The 2nd year was filled with rumors, surprises and the strong hope that it had to be belter than the first year. Onychopathy started off with Dr. Krause showing us 2.000.000 slides of diseased nails. He spelled paronychia 50 imes and stressed that Burow's solution had one R not 2. He also took off points for spelling. Remember when Dr. Krause never showed for the final exam and we called his wife at home and she said that he was at school giving a test We were ama cd that the final exam was an essay from the October i.vsue of Current Chiropody. 1924. Biomechanics taught us; Twinkle. Twinkle little toes, pronate and supinalc. that’s how it goes Varus. Valgus. new words for us Pods, if you don't learn these terms, you'll wind up a clod. Lest we forget Dr.Whit-nev's guess the angle a game he played with his glasses. Roentgenology, taught by Dr. Kchr was another mind boggling course. Was that x-ray filem on the final exam Rheumatoid or Osteoarthritis. Even Dr Kchr still isn't sure. Dr. Abramson, alias Mad Magazine, assured us that the TB belt had surrounded us from South St to Locust St We all ran to the lab to get our tine tests, only to discover it was all a hoax to get us up to the lab to do some work.
