Each possesses them in a personal and individual fashion. It is my hope that they are the sort that give depth of meaning and purpose to your personal as well as professional life. If, while at the School of Pharmacy, you have found a new friend, a helpful teacher, and an opportunity to invest yourself in a noble cause in addition to the study of your professional interest, then Pharmacy will be benefitted by you and you will be happy with Pharmacy. Temple University has justifiable pride in the accomplishments of the School of Pharmacy and its alumni and finds in the class of 1963 a further justification of this pride. Very sincerely yours. A Millard E. Gladfeltek .74e To the Members of the (Mass of 1963 Emerson once said, The things taught in schools ami colleges are not tin education but the means to an education. In limes of rapid change. Midi as those in which we live, it is important that the graduate understand this concept. We hope, therefore, that your stay at Temple University has provided training and inspiration which will make it possible for you to expand your knowledge and your concepts even as man is ever expanding the horizons of his understanding. Only by remaining alert to new challenges and receptive to new ideas can you render your best service to the community and the nation which you will serve. Following the ideals and motives of its founder. Dr. Russell Conwell. Temple University has inspired thousands of students and has led them into pathways of dedicated service. In becoming an alumnus you have become a part of this great tradition of dedication to community and to nation. Dean To the Class of 1963 You are the last of our “Mohican's,” the last four year class to graduate from our school, ami will prohahly be looked upon as the old time pharmacy graduates in the not too distant future. You are aware that you are plunging into a changing profession, one that is in a vast turmoil both economically and professionally. As a practicing pharmacist I feel that the future still has many bright spots for you, but perhaps as never before will demand of you hard work and unswerving loyalty to your chosen profession. It is my experience that those people who have had confidence in themselves and that what they are doing is right will overcome almost every obstacle, and 1 feel that those of you who have “confidence in pharmacy will rise to the heights and bring both credit and honor to our profession and school. 1 hope that your years in pharmacy will he both as gratifying and rewarding as it has been to us your faculty. Sincerely. JEROLD NEWBURCER Nothing has such power to broaden the mind as the ability to investigate systematically and truly all that comes under thy observation.'' Marcus Aurelius. Mrs. Wilson, generous with her time, has counselled and encouraged us in our moments of stress. She is always ready with a smile and a cheerful word for all. A native of Lock Haven, Pennsylvania, she came to Philadelphia to attend the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy and Science. Remaining here after her graduation. her activities in Pharmacy have been many and varied: hospital, retail, and educational. Furthering her own education, she attended the University of Pennsylvania where she attained a Bachelor of Arts Degree as an English major. She enlisted in the Women's Army Corp in 1941, serving most of her time in California as a Pharmacy Officer. She achieved the rank of First Lieutenant during her five years of service. This was October 6, 1962. the night of the All-Pharmacy Dance. The dance floor of the Adelphia Roof Garden vibrated with the sounds of music: some of the cantations played dated back to the “Roaring Twenties,” and it was not surprising to hear Mr. Lynch and his charming wife humming those “Oldies But Goodies.” The highlight of the affair came with the crowning of Miss Susan Thomas by Dean Sprowls as the Queen of the dance. After the dance, true fraternalism reached its end point with two interfraternal parlies. Rho Pi Phi and Phi Delta Chi gave one party and Alpha Zeta Omega combining with Kappa Psi to give the second affair. 103 Class The c lass of 1%3 was privileged to visit the laboratories and manufacturing plants of two giants in the pharmaceutical field on January 21, 22. 1963- After three and one-half years of learning the intricacies of pharmacy, embryo pharmacists and their wives (where applicable) embarked from the School of Pharmacy to New York City as the guests of Lederle and Squibb. We traveled via Campus Coach (buses) to the Abbey Hotel, just off Times Square. Culinary surprises of a smorgasbord satisfied all appetites and initiated many into that undistinguished Fraternity of Gluttony and the Antacid Society. n interesting visit to Squibb Laboratories revealed tin- many facets of pharmaceutical manufacturing and the fact that many pharmacy students did not like chicken (which seemed to he the 104 chosen fare of the pharmaceutical industry). After a treat to the program of the Radio City Music Hall, the class was free to visit the high spots of the big city and was encouraged to do so by our gracious Squibb hosts. The next day Reveille was provided by the hotel staff, and wearily, the men of '63 and their entourage were transported to the enormous facilities of Lederle Laboratories. This portion was especially appreciated because of the hospitality of the Lederle personnel. A panel discussion capped the tour of the Lederle plant. The final and most sumptuous arrangements of the tour were to be found at the Motel on the Mountain in Suffern, New York. After a most enjoyable dinner, the class of 1963 returned home to its bus strike bound city of brotherly love. t05 Maria Ciffarelli ami Mark Rosenberg sing the Mu-Cha Chu song from «h«- Broadway comedy Belts -ire Hinging.
