THE TEMPLE UNIVERSITY SCHOOL OF MEDICINE CLASS Of 1987 IS PROUD TO DEDICATE THIS YEARBOOK TO Todd Sagin, W.D. Richard S. Eisenstaedt, M.D. In August of 1983 a group of hard-working, intelligent young men and women gathered for the first time. Older than most entering medical school classes, the class of 1987 would bring many outside experiences to their medical education. The diversity within the class would become apparent early In their medical training, due in part to their strength of character and vocal nature. As the years passed, respect and understanding grew, unifying the class by allowing the diverse qualities of its individuals to remain strong. Appearances would have us believe that the class of '87 could not decide between preclinical or clinical influences, or that we were unable to unite on whether academia or community medicine offered the most valuable examples on which to focus. Appearances can be. and often are. deceiving. When the class of 1987 was faced with the decision of choosing a faculty member who best represented the values of the class, it seemed only natural that we. the class of 1987, were unable to select one person. Two physicians. Dr. Todd Sagin and Dr. Richard Eisenstaedt, stand out as role models for the class of 1987. Tor them, critical thought is essential for development of a competent physician. A skilled teacher requires critical thinking from his students, by constant probing, seeking the best that his students can offer. Both Dr. Sagin and Dr. Eisenstaedt will be long remembered for their skillful questioning. Having experienced life outside the classroom, the class of 1987 has an understanding of the difficulties the physician s life can bring. Balancing life in the hospital, office and at home can be a trying, oftimes impossible task. Drs. Sagin and Eisenstaedt have managed to reconcile these concerns without having to sacrifice quality along the way. Many physicians in our experience have portrayed the aforementioned qualities. To the class of 1987 Drs. Sagin and Eisenstaedt exemplify that which we value most — respect and concern for one's fellow man. Both are consummate professionals, but their depth of feeling for their work and their patients is readily apparent to all they have contacted, for their concern, support and caring, we honor Dr. Todd Sagin and Dr. Richard Eisenstaedt with our yearbook. 5
