O— mother felt the first contraction as she reached for a box of Twinkies in a local grocery store. She headed for the express check-out line hoping to make it out of the store (after all - she already had eight items) and safely to a hospital. The checker hurried his tabulations, but somewhere between the price of the broccoli and the price of the head of lettuce, her water broke. Before she recovered fully from the embarrassment, two bag boys had picked her up. placed her in a shopping cart and raced her towards the exit. She couldn't remember the rest of the trip to the hospital and when she arrived, much to the shock of the intern, she was almost fully dilated. She was wheeled into a delivery room and fifteen minutes later the same intern delivered a small, but vigorous, baby Harold into the world. It wasn't until she was on the phone with her husband that Harold's Mom realized she had no idea where the hospital was She had to ask the unit clerk for directions to relay to her husband. Just come down the Roosevelt Boulevard and get off at the Broad Street exit, she explained over the phone. Go south until you reach Tioga Street and it's right thereon the left across from Dox Truck. Little did the sleeping baby Harold realize how important that address would become in his life. 7

T he Class of 1983 (Harolds Story) This is Harold, a member of a rather unique graduating class. Even though he never attended one lecture, or examined a patient, or spent a night on call, he has been a little part of each of us for the past four years. In fact, you might say, all together our class made up Harold. This is his story.

Anyway, I’m told I don’t have the stamina or the equipment to he a gigolo or an athelete and I don’t have the hands of a concert pianist or the face of a movie star. 1 could make a fine alarm clock, hut my family already has one. Not much left except becoming a D.J. or an M.D. wonder if any colleges offer premedical broadcasting as a major? H. April 21, 1974 Saw my counselor he asked who Paul McCartney was.
