bf KMM tllZ SCHOO The Brehon Law Society, under the direction of President Pete Wymes. Vice President Jane Kelly. TreasurerFrank Murphy and Secretary Dennis Herbert, had a very busy year. This included an appearance by former political prisoner Paddy Joe Hill of the Birmingham Six. Highlights of his speech focused on the differences between the United States with our guaranteed constitutional rights and the United Kingdom's lack of such rights, to which he attributes his unjust imprisonment for 16 years. An action is pending in the World Court to compensate him for his suffering. This year's St. Patrick's Day fare included speeches by City Councilperson Daniel McElhalton on extradition and asylum for Irish Nationals and by Ann Gaughan on the effect of the Joe Doherty case on American law. Not to be forgotten were the annual St. Patrick's Day festivities which included all day videos and a party that was second to none, offering Ceilis. Schotts and more. Throughout the year, the Brchons were active in their support of local Irish events. Brehon Law Societ Entertainment Sports Law Association Entertainment and sports law involves many practice areas including contracts. antitrust, malpractice and other areas affecting members of these industries. The Entertainment and Sports Law Association (ESLA) was started in the fall of 1990 by Lois Walker. Kimberly Hillery. Jaimic Fields and Andrea Dcutsch. Our purpose was to create an organization that w ould allow individuals to learn about entertainment and sports law. while networking with others who share this common interest. The organization has held discussions with Professors Joseph Marshall. who is also our advisor. Wendy Shiba and Lloyd Rcmick. In addition. B has brought in practitioners who spoke about specific areas of m copyright infringement and sports law. Members of ESLA formed a symposium in the spring of 1991.» included six speakers and allowed participants to talk in a more inti setting with those actually working in entertainment and sports law. E hopes to make the symposium an annual event. ESLA has also heldn happy hours and social events. 50

The Temple University Chapter of the Black Law Students Association (BL.S A) was created in 1969 when eight enterprising law- students saw the need to form a support organization for African-American law students. With a current membership of over I (X) students. Temple BLSA continues to fulfill the directive of our founders. Temple BLSA provides educational, social and cultural support to its members. The Education Committee sponsored workshops on outlining. Westlaw and exam taking skills. BLSA hosts several happy hours at local clubs arid in the Law School. This semester, we had a Spring Semester Welcome Back Party and a Black History Month Jam. To ensure awareness of our cultural history, the Cultural AffairsCommitteeorganized a heartwarming tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King, sponsored mid-day films and speakers and stimulated dialogue within the Law School by hosting forums to discuss issues which shape the lives of African-Americans and other people of color, litis year we sponsored The Politics of Race at Temple Law School - a Forum on Race Relations. Our members visited schools and interviewed prospective law students and faculty. In addition to playing an active role in the Law School community. Temple BLSA is committed to community service. Recognizing the need to be role models to our youth, our members serve as mentors, readers and Big Brothers Big Sisters to the children at the William Dick Elementary School. In recognition of our efforts at Temple and in the Community. Temple BLSA is the proud recipient of the 1992 Mideast BLSA Chapter of the Year and Adopt-a-School Program Awards.
