1 TEMPLE OPERATIVE PROSTHODONTICS D t was one day four years ago when 115 strangers from around the world came together to begin their dental school adventure. Through the months of ups and downs, laughter and tears, triumphs and disappointments, we all became a family. We were together when wax became gold, composite turned into restorations, and typodonts transformed into human-beings. We supported each other when the crowns wouldn’t fit, patients were upset, MODs became endos, cases were pulled from the lab. or a shoulder was needed to cry on. There were times when we didn’t know if we would make it to next week, let alone graduation, but here we are. We walked in not knowing buccal from lingual; we walk out as doctors. Congratulations, Class of 2003. We d ORALSURGERY ENDODONTICS 2 TABLE OF CONTENTS SENIORS .10 UNJDERCIASSES .132 FACULTY .146 CLUBS .162 ADS .174 3 C0 To the Class of 2003: Dental school is a time of transition; a metamorphosis from the carefree days of college into a more mature and responsible adulthood. No one understands this transition better than the Temple dental student, Looking ahead to graduation. I am pleased to say the Class of 2003 knows they are part of an educational system composed of faculty and staff who work with them to develop their confidence and their clinical abilities—the qualities that best characterize the Temple graduate. I want to share some reflections about the Class of 2003: You are bright and talented and have brought a special enthusiasm to the educational program at Temple. It has been a pleasure to have interacted with you as students and now know you as colleagues. On behalf of the administration, faculty and staff, I congratulate you on having achieved a significant milestone in your lives. I wish you the very best for the future. Sincerely, D. 4 D Ms. Theresa Wyzyriski he class of 2003 is honored to dedicate the 2002-2003 edition of the Odontolog to Ms. Theresa Wyzynski. Her continual devotion has served as inspiration for us all. The only thing bigger than her unending generosity is her love for the students of Temple Dental. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your love, compassion and support over the last four years. Most of us would not have made it without you. We will miss and remember you always. 5 6 8 9 Jen Mills Kim Pham Bhairavi Sheth Amanda Skarbek Mike Verber Chetna Wadhwa Diana Young Ul mJ CL s ui H As we introduced ourselves during orientation, our fears and uncertainties faded away. Finally, there will be an acronym trailing my name. I remember taking a break in between classes during freshman year on the third floor fire escape. I stared at a smoke stack in the horizon thinking how nice it would be to look that the same smoke stack in four years when I'm done. That time has finally arrived and that same smoke stack is still there, staring back at me. I'm going to miss it... Well, now is the time not only to be happy but to be thankful for my family and friends whose unquestioning faith in me and undying support have carried me through some tough times. Please know that your love and sacrifice have made this day possible. 1 thank you, one and all. 34 Stan Clark, D.M.D. Salt Lake City, Utah Utah State University Alpha Omega, American Student Dental Association, Asian American Club A special thanks to my loving and supportive wife. Some were tough (boards, getting mugged, boards etc.), but most were great (Haiti, the Olympics, birth of my daughter, graduation). Sherry, and my daughter, Alyssa, whose unwavering support and tireless efforts have helped inspire me to be a better person. Good Luck to the Class of 2003. J . To everyone that I've befriended over the past four years, thanks for the laughs and for being there. My door will always be open. With a few of the more memorable moments ingrained in my head: Pre-Clinic wars with short-shorts, all of the good times at the FSU with the lunch gang (TK, Keith, Kuon, Dave Tatoo , Reuss John). Most importantly, I need to thank my parents who have always been there for me. They have made this accomplishment possible. And Becky, my everything, who has supported me through the bad times and made the good times better. I'd also like to thank my parents and my friends, especially Ferdiane for all their support. The day has finally come that I become a dentist; this would not have been possible without the unconditional support of my husband. There were days when he'd say Honey, go study and I'll prepare dinner, or All I demand of you is to focus on your studies. There were moments when I felt that there was no light at the end of the tunnel, he reassured me that it would come. Today is one of the happiest hays of my life and I could not have done it without him... Thanks Pouky 41 James G. Drake, D.M.D. Victor. Idaho Idaho State University Alpha Omega, Asian American Club, American Student Dental Association, Endodontic Study Club, Oral Surgery Honor Society, Pediatric Study Club, Student Council (Class Representative), Academy of General Dentistry Things I knew about farming, but found true for dental school too: Solvin' problems is like throw in' cattle, dig your heels in on the big ones and catch the little ones 'round the neck. Control generosity when dealin' with a chronic borrower. Good judgement comes from experience, which comes from bad judgement. When in a hole, stop diggin'. You can just about stand more than you think you can. It don't matter so much how long as how well you ride. Makin' it in life is kind of like bustin' broncs: you're gonna get thrown, the secret is to keep gettin' back on. Good on ya guys. 42 Thomas K. W. I would like to congratulate my colleagues in the Class of 2003; it has been a long and tough road, met with resistance every step of the way. Albert Einstein once said Great spirits often encounter violent opposition from mediocre minds. I'd say that sums up dental school pretty well. Thank you to my mother and father, without their tireless and unending love and support I could not have accomplished this. I will always remember the friends and good times I had here. Have fun! 44 Charles Matthew Esposito, D.M.D. Mount Holly, New Jersey La Salle University American Student Dental Association, Asian American Club, Delta Sigma Delta, Endodontic Study Club, Oral Surgery Honor Society, Pediatric Study Club To my family, especially my parents, for your unending love and support; you taught me never to settle for second best. Thank you for allowing me to realize my dream. 45 Michael Brian Faktor, D.M.D. Middletown, New Jersey University of Boulder University of California, Berkeley American Student Dental Assoeiation,Oral Surgery Study Club “The great experience is start from 1st step ' - Mr Suria (Durr) Santisombutkasam Thanks so much to all my family and friends who helped me get to where I am today, especially my father for convincing me to get into this crazy profession. There are so many doctors in the school 1 could thank but those that stick out were Dr. L. Deem, Dr. VVeisberg, Dr. Domanico and Dr. Reid. Best of luck to all my classmates. 1 couldn't have been part of a better class. 1 really believe we worked great together and hopefully, we'll continue to do so in the future. 46 Michael Foran, D.M.D. Hicksville, New York Loyola College, Baltimore American Student Dental Association, Endodontic Study Club, Oral Surgery Honor Society Well, I can't believe that we all made it this far. I certainly didn't think that I would be here after trying to carve that damn blue tooth out of wax. The past 4 years have certainly been an education. I have learned how to be a secretary, an accountant, and a receptionist. Somewhere in there I think 1 might have learned a little bit of dentistry. I also learned that if someone starts talking about space shuttle tiles in the floor, I should take cover, because the BS is flying. On a more serious note, I would like to thank my friends here at school because we had some really good times together, and my parents who have always supported me and never pressured me. Thank God we're done! 47 Lauren Ann Francis, D.M.D. Downingtown, Pennsylvania Washington and Lee University American Student Dental Association, Asian American Club, Delta Sigma Delta We finally made it! Amanda has supplied me with countless pages of copied notes, hours of conversation during lecture, and days of company in the preclinic. I only wish that during the clinic, we had the chance to spend as much time together as we did our first two years. Nevertheless, thank you Dr. Skarbek for your friendship. 49 Richard G. Instead, I steal them, take them home, and hammer them together. I've got myself a pretty good size piece of foil and some day I'm gonna do something really special with it. Like bake a potato or perhaps wrap a sandwich. Thanks Temple! To Ma, Pa, Sis, G-man and the best, most supportive friends a guy could ask for. I couldn't have made it without you. 53 Caroll J.
