Oi te, Yex ir Of T c tWhry ACULTY STAFF During the first two years of dental school we grew aquainted with the faculty at Temple on both a professional and personal level. But, during the last two years of this seemingly endless journey, we have come to know the staff as well. The two entities together have helped us to find new- ways to work in and around the Temple Dental system. The support staff, even though at certain limes slow to be seen or suprisingly elusive, have been the backbone to the functionality of the school. Without them we would not have clean instruments, chairs to scat patients, clinic supplies, nor in-house paging with occasional intercom conversations. Without the faculty we would still be where we were four years ago: sane, a full head of hair, a medicine cabinet devoid of Prozac and a nasal lining of healthy tissue (rather than gold dust). In all fairness the faculty, staff, and even students have their good days and their bad; you just have to learn how to strategically maneuver around the obstacles. TOP TEN WAYS TO IMPRESS THE FACULTY AND STAFF: 10. Remember, at 3:45PM if s time to wrap up. 9. When asked about overdue charts, always say that you just dropped them in the box. 8. Don't ask to have any projects regraded, because on a good day it may be an “A , and on a bad day it may be a C . 7. Only ask for one drop of bonding agent per tooth, and shame on you for not having a contact lens holder. 6. When asked • Why? remember the answer can be found on www.DrJRoscn.com. 5. Take Sturdevant and Shillinburg to bed. alternately or together, whatever your pleasure. 4. Only two pairs of gloves per clinic session, and overgloves are your friends. 3. TU Ju-fef NDERCLASSMEN On our interview day, we were told and shown all the endless possibilities that Temple Dental had to offer. We knew that dental school would be tough, but we did not know what was in store for us. The first two days were easy: we met the Dean (ivou ), and got all our cool new toys. On the third day we woke up and were slammed into the real world (iouch ). From that day forward we have been taking it one step at a time, for better or for worse. We've come so far not understanding all that has been asked of us (aren't there labs that will do that for us in the future?), but unfortunately we had to do it. Soon we will leave these hallowed halls of Temple and will join those who have gone before us out in the real world -we can't wait! THE TEN COMMANDMENTS OF PRE-CLINIC I. For this reason there are many different clubs and organizations which provide guidance to their members. They range from the Asian American Club, which helps students prepare for their first two years of dental school, to the triad of fraternities to which members can turn for help in clinic or for social matters. In any case, the clubs and organizatons provide us a link between social and academic life, and also between the students and the faculty. Most importantly, they give us an avenue by which we can explore different aspects of dentistry that may not be taught in our regular curriculum. 10. Free samples and demos. 9.
