These pages are to recognize those members of the faculty and administration who have risen in the ranks of organized dentistry to hold high offices within their respective organizations. DR. JOHN L. BOMBA ’46 With his installation address at the 125th annual session, October 25, 1985, John L. Bomba, D.D.S., ’46 began his term as president of the American Dental Association. He spoke on professionalism and trust in association with “the concept of subjugating one’s own interest to the good of the whole,” and “the enlightened self-interest as opposed to selfish interest.” We are proud to honor Dr. John L. Bomba and extend our heartfelt congratulations. DR. FRANK J. SAMMARTINO Dr. Frank J. Sammartino, ’46. has served the state of Pennsylvania as an officer and trustee of the Pennsylvania Dental Association since 1977. This year Dr. Sammartino assumes the highest office within dentistry in Pennsylvania. He has served in the Philadelphia County Dental Society on the local level and as Vice-President for two terms on the state level. These positions, as well as many others too numerous to mention, well qualify him for this honor. The Class of 1985 congratulates Dr. Frank J. Sammartino, President Pennsylvania Dental Association. DR. ERNEST B. MINGLEDORFF In February 1984, Dr. Ernest B. Mingledorff was elected President of the American Academy of Crown and Bridge Prosthodontists. As a nationally recognized authority on fixed prosthodontics, Dr. Mingledorff has gained a reputation for demanding excellence from his students and his constituents without losing his Southern charm. He has brought honor to Temple as well as to those who have an opportunity to work with him. The Class of 1985 salutes your achievement. DR. MORTON B. SPIEGELFORD ’47 Dr. Morton B. Spiegelford. '47, is serving the third and final year of his term on the Philadelphia County Dental Society’s Board of Governors. His activities on numerous committees, as well as his wife Sarah’s involvement in the Dental society’s auxiliary group, have enhanced the professional and social facets of dentistry in the dental schools, as well as in the Philadelphia area. Thank you, Dr. Spiegelford, for your continuing efforts on our behalf. 5 IN MEMORIUM pfeELO P. Each new day generated a different concern. In retrospect all of the concerns appear to have deminished in value and importance as we began to look beyond graduation toward the place we will hold in our society and in the profession. The one constant I have found is the close friendships we have developed and maintained throughout our dental education. The maintenance of these friendships and allegiances was the Strength of our class and what made the class unique. I hope after graduation we will all remain close in friendship as we continue on our own course in life. I feel privileged and happy to be able to call you all my friends. 1 want to thank each of you for granting the class officers the privilege and honor of representing you these past four years. I wish you all only happiness in the years to come. Your friend, Bruce James Bense Senior Class President 28 TO MEMBERS OF THE CLASS OF ’85 WHILE YOU WERE OUT MESSAGE: This is your answering service. I dedicate my degree to you. Love your Son, Anthony Farrow, D.M.D. The Hourglass of Life The hourglass of fortune drops a grain of sand each day ... and means a fleeting moment in our lives has passed away. Let's hope that in the time it took that tiny speck to land ... each one of us accomplished something worthwhile that we’d planned. For though our days flow quickly on their journey into years ... We yet have time to use them ... If we conquer all our fears. So many are the daydreams we have time to make come true ... So wondrous are life’s pleasures lovely things to see and do, And though it's in the scheme of things that time will swiftly flow ... Pray let us take the best of it, Before we see it go.
