TEMPLE UNIVERSITY health sciences center SCHOOL OF DENTISTRY PHILADELPHIA. PENNSYLVANIA 19140 orncf or nir dean October 31, 1977 TO THE CLASS OF 1978; You are entering the dental profession during a time of turmoil, unrest, and change. Dental insurance programs are proliferating rapidly, providing the opportunity to obtain dental services for millions who are unaccustomed to regular care. The very foundation of all of the professions is being challenged. Ethical values are being changed. It appears likely that advertising by dentists, physicians, and attorneys will become acceptable conduct. Cost and quality of services are being questioned and monitored. Individuals without any formal training are claiming the right to work directly for the public. Perhaps now more than ever, it is imperative that the members of the profession be prepared to defend the principles and practices which have brought dentistry to the position of respect which it enjoys today. You must get involved, participate in and support your professional organizations, while constantly maintaining the principles of professionalism and providing the highest quality services for your patients. To do so, you will have to continue to learn and to adapt to the changing profession and society. Congratulations, and sincere best wishes for a most satisfying and successful career. Dale F. Roeck, D.D.S. Dean
