Message to the Qlass of ’42 fN LEAVING these halls you take with you the latest fruits of the ideals planted here seventy-nine years ago. Your Alma Mater is a fruitful monument to the ideals and devotion to the betterment of what is now your life’s work. Retain, then, this perspective in whatever you may be called upon to do—and for most of you it will undoubtedly be some activity aiding in the immediate welfare of our country. The devotion to the ideals of practice and principle which have been passed on to you in your four years we have spent together—and I speak now for all of your teachers—will serve to carry you through what may well be some of the gravest moments in your lives. We know you will not fail us and the spirit of those who, having gone before, now point the way. I do not want to descend to rank sentimentality, but I do sincerely appreciate your loyalty and friendship.
