GENERAL FILE COPY TEMPLE UNIVERSITY AMBLER CAMPUS Presenting 1965 A M B E R Ambler Campus Temple University Amber—the mid-point between standing still and forging ahead. What makes this year different from all others? Nothing? Everything? Something? A Sophomore’s life—a transition from the past to the present— those goals immediate, those in the future—solving today’s problems, facing tomorrow’s—conformists, non-conformists—the academically minded, those struggling not to be—the happy, the sad—but not the good, not the bad—What is Ambler? Does anyone know?—and yet, we hope to present these contrasts in the following pages—the real nature of Ambler. THANK YOU . . . ... Dr. John C. Swartley, Trees and Shrubs teacher and friend, for giving the students at the Ambler Campus the benefit of knowing you. It is not likely that we shall forget your waggish smile, your subtle humor, and your kind guidance. Horticulture and Landscape Design students will forever remember the botanical name for the famous Bee Tree and the dos and don’ts of laying a flagstone walk. Your students and others who have had the opportunity to know you will remember always the man who had such a concern for and interest in the welfare of Ambler, and who kindly listened and helped them with their problems. For all this, Dr. Swartley, we shall remember you with respect and affection, and therefore we dedicate the 1965 Amber to you. 2 The rapid growth of institutions of higher learning in our country has reached the proportions of a national phenomenon. The Temple University Ambler Campus is keeping stride. New dormitories, to be ready in the fall of 1965, will inevitably be followed by additional classroom buildings and supporting facilities. You have been the harbingers as well as the beneficiaries of change, for no school can stand aside from the mainstream of educational advancement and no school can yield to change without reason. We invite your social and intellectual commitment as an active alumnus so that you can continue to share in the future of the Ambler Campus. EUGENE UDELL Dean of the Ambler Campus To each member of the Class of 1965, 1 express my appreciation for your many contributions to our campus life. You have my deepest wish for your continued progress and happiness. In the years ahead, as you think of Ambler, may you remember the trees, steadfast in purpose, yet gracefully adapting to a changing climate, and ever growing.
