In the early spring of 1938, the Rev. Clifford Hollifield, pastor and director of the Fort Wayne Gospel Temple, heard of the tremendous spiritual need for missionary workin Haiti, the Dominican Republic, and Cuba. He took his first trip to these fields at that time, and realized that the fields were white unto harvest. Where was he to find laborers for these fields? The first candidate was Dorothy Lee, and soon preparations were being made for her to go to Haiti. Brother Hollifield began to get applications from people who wanted to go out under the Temple board. When these young people began to arrive at the Temple, it grad- ually came to light that they had a different vision and needed further training. After much waiting upon the Lord, he confided in his help-meet that the only solution to the many problems was to have his own school, training young people for the Lord's work. His desire and need for such a training school was one thing, but developing it was another. Class rooms, dormitories, a dean, teachers, and money would be needed. At first the idea seemed fantastic, but as the Lord directed, the plan began to unfold. One morning, while standing in the back of the audi- torium, Brother Hollifield looked toward the roof and said, lu these steel rafters will be our training school. The immediate need was for Sunday School rooms which would later be training' school class rooms. Money was then discussed, News spread like wild fire of the improve- ments being anticipated for the Temple, and the money began to come in. The second and third floors, the en- larged bookstore, and the chapel were built. A Search began for another building that could be used for a girls' dormitory. and the building on Calhoun Street was found. We now had the class rooms, chapel, dormi- tories, but no school head and no teachers. Much time was spent in prayer for God's guidance, because a mistake at this lime would be disastrous, If use believe noi, yet he nbirlelh faithful. In August of 1941, while holding a Bible Conference with the Canadian Youth for Christ at Rest Acres, Brantford, Ontario, Canada, Brother Hollifleld was con- tacted by a fine Christian educator who had heard of his vision and plans for the training school and was deeply interested. There seemed to be a David-and-Jonathan feel- ing between them and soon definite plans were in the making. Rev. Lloyd C. Clark was to come to Fort Wayne, and together they would work on plans, curriculum, teach- ers, and all things connected with tzhe making ofthe school. 'The Temple Missionary Training School was opened in September, 1942, with Lloyd C. Clark as dean, and a cap- able staff. From the Hrst day great spiritual blessing was felt in the school. Soon a great sorrow was to como to the Temple, the school, the staff, and those in radio land. Before the first year was ended, on April 16, 1943, just seven months after the founding of the school, the beloved founder and presi- dent went to be with the Lord on his thirty-third' birthday. His passing seemed to be a challenge to all to Carry on. During the years of 1943 through 1946 Rev, Lloyd C. Clark has been dean of the school. In 1943, Rev. Ralph W. Neighbour was called to the Fort Wayne Gospel Temple and appointed as president of the school. Under his leadership the school will be 3 bless. ing lo many in the years to come.
