It is traditionally the purposeof The Cotton Blossom to serve as a px rnanent collection of words and pic- tures to r ern ind you of your years here. As you glance through the pages of this 1955 edition of E C otton Blossom, you will find that the emphasis is on you, the student-- your school, your campus activities, your athletics p r 0 g r am, and your recreational pursuits. It is the wish of the staff that you will find all of these phases of your high school life faithfully and pleasantly presented here, and that you will enjoy this annual to the fullest extent. A school is not a school without t e a c h e r s . Temple High School is fortunate in hav- ing ve r y competent instruc- tors. In the s c ho ol building itself we also have a principal, a s s i s tant principal, and a counselor. The school super- intendent, the administrative assistant, the director of cen- sus and attendance, the music co-ordinator, and the school nurse have offices in the Mun- icipal Building. In addition to these there are seven School Board members. it ' i A 10-rsrarcf-5 l I UUE o' Ot' If 5' 'I 9' 4 v 5 J: 0 V W Q , 2 HHH 4 i '-Qi. The usual procedure in obtain- ing these is four years of schooling-fresh- man, sophomore, junior, and senior years. From the freshman's point of view these four years look like an e t e r ni t y before him, but as they quickly pass by it seems to the graduating senior like only yester- day when he e nte r e d high school. With the passing of time each member of these classes advances in maturity, personality, and co-operation, as well as knowledge. He also develops many friendships that he will continue to carry throughout his life. As each student enters Temple High School he has a goal ahead of him. This may be college or a job after he has fulfilled his four years' work, but along with this hope he shouldbegin and go through high school with the sincere desire to better his school and be a credit to his class. If e ve r y student entering and leaving Temple High has this attitude, then he can proudly say-- I graduated from TEM- PLE HIGH SCHOOL! x A'! A 30 0 it Mit t J4 id-' fi-ff MEF :E -. ,fi B E. +9 . Q gem 1 OFFICERS OF THE SENIOR CLASS: QLeft to right, standingj Don- ald Davis, reporterg Charlene Mikeska, treasurerg Betty Powell, secretaryg Harold Cartwright, sergeant-at-armsg Buddy Honey- cutt, vice-presidentg Ed Kubala, sergeant-at-armsg fsittingj Clea Myers, president. Reaching their goal at last, the senior class of '55 will leave the familiar halls of TI-IS and strike out on their own separate paths of life. During the past four years this class has started from the bottom rung of the ladder and reached the highest, learning during this climb co-operation within the class and the true meaning of sportsmanship. The four years of high school are always looked back on with pleasant memories and it is certain that every mem- ber of the 1955 senior class will rem embe r these years as the fullest and happiest ones of all his life. Every stu- dent has the opportunity to partici- pate in the social life of our school. To have a Well-balanced life it is nec- essary to have physical e x e r cis e and fun as well as clas ses and studies. We certainly have plenty of fun in Temple High. As suggestedby the adjoining pic tu r e the activities range from dancing and field day events to or- ganizations like the Band, the Pep- perettes, and the Senior Choir. To belong to the s e organizations, and have fun doing it, does not require any special talent. All that is need- ed is the desire to make friends and to enjoy them. Many students, we believe, have this desire, if we may judge from the number who are active in our extra-curricular p r o g r a m. In the following p ag e s we have tried to help you retain, through the use of photographs, the memory of your numerous activities during the days you spent in Temple High School. A boy and a girl from each class are elected by amajority vote of the members of their class . Then this boy and girl are the recognized favorites of their class, whether it be Freshman, Sophomore, Junior, or Senior. Organizations also have favor- ites. They are called Sweethearts, and only one is selected by each or- ganization. Sweethearts are a tra- dition in T.H.S., and this year has been no exception. The football and basketball teams, the Senior Choir, and the Band are amon g the many organizations wh o s e Sweetheart is their favorite person. This year we feel that each class and organization made a wise choice, and that the ones chosen really de- serve to be called FAVORITES. 7-4 J THQ Q Q .
