Your willingness to accept responsibility, your fine school spirit, and your ability to represent your school as leaders and sportsmen have made Temple City known as a good school. We have had a senior class filled with outstanding people. They will be missed, but we are looking forward to those of you remaining taking the lead in a continuous campaign to name Temple City High School the Best. w 1- .1 -un gn VICE - PRINCIP L Miss Lcxurc Shephard Girls' Vice Principal BOYS. Presfclenf lt has been a privilege and an honor to serve as your Student Body President. l would like to give my thanks to the teachers, the cabinet, and all of the students tor the cooperation they have given me. To the classes coming up l wish the best of success, and I know you will continue to build the tradition ot Temple City High School. The fact that you, the students, can have a voice in the government of your school shows again how priceless democracy is. Support your elect- ed officers, for by so doing you will carry this practice with you into lite and be a better citizen. Q 1 I f - i X . l l 1 lik! f , I ,T fy, A , X l Vice President BOB BENDER -,S-Q. , . ssl A.S.B. President BROOKE HOLMES Vice - President The Vice President of the Associated Student Body is also the student council chairman. His responsibility is to preside over all council meet- ings and to assume the president's duties in his absence. Thank you for the opportunity to serve as your vice president. It has been an honor and ci privilege. K . Mary Helen Heed Secretary Nelson Kempsky Treasurer DANCE COMMISSIONER It has certainly been an honor to serve this Student Body as Dance commissioner. I'm sure you will re- member the Christmas Dance as a good example of the wonderful year we've had for dances. I sincerely hope they have played as important a part in your high school life as they have in mine. ASSEMBLY COMMISSIONER I have enioyed holding the office of Assembly Commissioner. It has giv- en me opportunities to meet repre- sentatives from other schools and people in the entertainment business. Presiclenf S Cabinet As this is Temple City High Schools first year as a four year high school, the student cabinet has worked hard to give the stu- dents all the privileges of a high school. Many clubs have been organized on campus and chartered by the cabinet. Our student body officers and those of the other schools in the Rio Hondo League have formed a league forum. School spirit, good sportsmanship, interschool friendships are the ideals of this forum. In any good government the voice of the people is necessary. Each student at T.C.H.S. has the right and the chance to voice his opinion through his representative to the student council. The main purpose of the Boys League was to promote the interest of the boys and provide interesting activities for them and the rest of the student body. The first activity this year was an all-boys assembly on the history of the Jr. Rose Bowl game. Then came the annual Frosh-Soph Mud Brawl in which the Sophs emerged vic- torious. After we came back from Christmas vacation, the Boys League sponsored the an- nual Stuclenteliaculty Basketball Game. The final score was rather uncertain, but we are reasonably sure the Faculty won. A high spot on the school social calendar was the annual Valentines Fantasy formal, co-spon- sored by the Girls League and the Boys The Sophs battle it out with the Frosh at the Soph-Frosh Brawl. The Frosh are valiantly fighting for possession of the Giant Push Ball League. This years officers were: President, Mike Coghlan, Vice President, Ronald Surdam, Secretary, Terry Reinhold. The Spanish Fiesta given by Mrs, Phyllis Nelsons Spanish classes highlighted the year. later it was impressively climaxed by our Rose Bowl graduation and our prom at l-linshaw's auditorium, Strangely enough, we were still the upper classmen in the eleventh grade, tor T.C,J.l-l. became Temple City l-ligh School. Ronnie Surdam President Sandra Finkle Vice President .4 Diana Breneiser Secretary-Treasurer IORS. .. JUNIORS 57 The big problem that confronted the Junior Class this year was Temple City High School's first Junior-Senior Prom. One of the duties ofa Junior Class is to give the graduating seniors a prom. In the case of Temple City the iob was very hard because Temple City had never held a Junior-Senior Prom before, and because of this the Junior Class had no precedent to follow. Led by President-Ronald Surdam, Vice President-Sandra Finkle, and Secretary-Treasurer-Diana Breneiser, for the prom, the iuniors decided they would need to raise money to rent the Huntington-Sheraton Hotel, and to hire a topflight band. In order to do this they organized the following money-raising proiects: a special Pep Assembly, a Banquet, a Junior-Senior Review, and a Temple City Pennant Sale. The iuniors worked very hard to make the prom a success, because it is one of the events a senior remembers about his high school. ln the course of the year the juniors chose their colors and the design for their sweaters. The Junior Class was sponsored by Mrs. Susi Peterson and William Blomgren. ,W ,T 16 K f B bln C I Mi ,glfff fi Qx nf W1 'Fai 1 ew- Y C 1 T? '7' 57's h 'U -. .1- ! 5' Q D V4 .36-lqrp. Wayne Broadhag President Sharon Johnson Vice President Barbara Jimenez Secretary-Treasurer THE FRESHMENH This year marked the third in which we have had the role of the Perennial freshmen. We are looking forward to meeting next year's crop of frosh which will be the first to come up from the elementary schools. As 9th graders perhaps we'll even de- feat them in the next Frosh-Soph Brawl, which we lost this year. Sponsored by Mrs. Marian Evans and Arthur Sawicki, the 9th grade elected its first officers in October. Memories of this Freshman year should be indelible on the minds of this year's crop since we've already had 2 trial years, or was it 2 trying years? . Concert C ofr A combination of fifty-four voices made up the Temple City concert Choir under the direction of Roger Lockie. The date of their debut was November 23, when they appeared before the school in the Thanksgiving Convocation. Sarah Williams was elected president and also served as the piano player. John Simons was Vice Presi- dent. The Choraliers, a group of twenty-seven voices, was a newly formed and a highly select group. They made a total of three ap- pearances after their organization in January. Another of the special groups was the Temple Belles. Although it was only a four column, two page paper, the distribution that Friday created quite a sensation in each 5th period class. Enlarging the paper was the next proiec November 18th, the Rampage was enlarged to a five column four page paper. ln order to print the paper, several of the staff members sold ads downtown for three weeks. Endless time and effort was put forth, but its appreciation by the students as it was published monthly, made it all worthwhile. As we come to the end of the year we are proud of our paper and the progress it has made. We are going to miss all of our senior staff members, but we are also looking forward to next year which will bring bigger and better things for our Rampage. Under usual circumstances a school's varsity is its strongest team, but this year the number of boys participation in track was less than usual. Both Coaches Joe Feary and Chuck Piper decided, after careful consideration, that of the two teams ithe Varsity and B squads, the Cs were not involvedl the B's had the best chance of winning the League Championship in their division. Because of this situation all the possible strength was shifted to the B's l Because af an early deadline lMar. 191 we had no way of knowing who took the Championships, but as far as we could tell, and according to predictions of the coaches, the B's should have fared better than the Varsity or the C's . Also because of the deadline we couldn't tell who would set school records and enter C,l,F. competition. However, some of the boys who the coaches thought would be outstanding were, in Varsity competition, Bob Beachboard HOO, 220 yd. dashl, Tom Parrington 01401, and Dale Butterfield lshot putl. Among the outstanding participants in B competition were Ernie Angell idis- tances, Tom Agnew Zernikow IIOO, 220 yd. dashl. In the C division there were only two boys who had any chance to place in C.I.F. and they were Dale Long and Bill Wells.
