We love you. Jhe class of 88 To the class Seniors approaching graduation often tend to be concerned with the future of the world and the individual parts they may plan in its destiny. In this light, I am reminded of a discussion which took place some years ago in a Neiv York llerald Tribune Youth Forum on THE WORLD WE WANT. An 18 year old delegate from the Philippine Islands made a con¬ tribution that was stated something like this: ‘Usually, when I discuss with people the kind of world we want, they astonish me by describing a Utopia without cares. As for me, I like this world we have. I like living in this century, so full of strivings and plans that I feel part of a wonderful and exciting experiment. I like the suspense which give to life its only true zest. Let me have this world, with dreams for me to dream and problems for me to solve.’ Past generations are certainly leaving the Class of 1988 no Utopia, but I suggest you give this world a vote of confidence for you are makers of the future world With its cleanliness and dirt, its ups and downs, and its total unexpectedness, it has given, through variety, more pleasure than pain to us. Whatever else it may be, this particular century is still the broadest, the most exciting, and the most promising of all. For each of you, members of the Class of 1988, may this world always be as challenging as it is. May it always have something to be solved, patched, or mended May it never be a soft place for soft people. May it always be a world where one can prove his worth by facing his troubles. May your world always be of such challenge and scope that your lives never become complacent, but remain always worth living. Congratulations to the Class of 1988 on your accomplishments thus far. I wish you the very best of luck with your future. Sincerely, Dewaine B. Craig Superintendent You have just completed four years of preparation towards your life’s goal. It is my hope that you do not look at graduation as the final achievement, but rather as the beginning of more to come. As always, some of the graduating class have had to work harder than others to achieve this goal. Let me leave you with this thought: ‘That which we acquire with the most difficulty we retain longest, as those who have earned a fortune are usually more careful of it than those who have inherited one.’ As you set and achieve future goals, may you also put your best effort into them so that you will be proud and want to preserve them as you would a fortune. My best wishes to you. Theodore R. Davis Principal of ’88 Congratulations to the Class of 1988. You have reached an important goal the completion of high school. During your years with us we have learned together, and so it is with life as well. Take the lessons you have learned at Telstar and use them as a foundation on which to build your future. Set goals and think positively. Do something every day for your fellow man and something for yourself Make choices wisely for they will become the road map of your life May the road lead you to fulfillment and success. The world is yours — reach out for it. Continue to grow; continue to learn. Don’t accept mediocrity. Carroll Higgins Assistant Principal Being the largest class in size to graduate since Telstar Re¬ gional High School’s inception is only one distinctive quality you have as a group. You all have also demonstrated, through academics, extra-curricular activities, employment opportunities, and relationships, your strengths and weaknesses as individuals. You are unique and special people. I have grown as a person and professional with my time with you the past four years. Thus, your life at Telstar is near its end. May your experiences here have provided you the foundation to meet the excitement, anxieties, pressures, accomplishments and hardships ahead. You will surely be tested. Remember to express your appreciation to your friends, em¬ ployers, teachers, relatives and parents for their support with your education. Someday soon you will be supporting younger individuals with their education. May you achieve everything you attempt in life. You are the future. Best, Daniel Hart Guidance Counselor 5 Ip Barbara and Patricia We the students of Telstar would like to thank you for spending this year with us. You shared your friendship, as well as your culture. The Rebels booted their way to a 12-4-1 record behind the strong play of MVC All-Stars Greg Gould, Todd Davis, Chris Bennett and Amos Kimball. The team broke and tied many records including shutouts, consecutive wins and goals scored by opponents. Though the Varsity is los¬ ing eleven players to graduation, the Rebels have many talented juniors, and the freshmen and sophomores show great potential. Jason Miserocchi and Nathan Miserocchi placed 23rd, and 37th respectively in the Western Re¬ gional. Brenda Taylor placed 18th and Buffi Taylor 23rd in their regional race. Brenda went on to place 27th in the Class C State Meet. Brenda and Buffi were also named to the 1987 MVC All-Star Cross Country Team. The girls’ team showed major improvement over last year, finishing 5th. The boys also finished 5th, with most of these losses by less than five points. The boys’ team was plagued by inconsistency; only in three meets did the top three skiers Todd Davis, Jeff Lyons, and Steve Learned all stand up and finish. Both teams suffered through injuries, leaving them few in num¬ bers at times, but next year looks promising. There are no senior girls graduating this year, while the boys will only lose three. i w _ Z_ wore U S77777. Boy’s Nordic L to R Ryan Bernier, Brant Remington, Jamie Blake, Nathan Bean, Bruce Korhonen, Nathan Miserocchi, Scott Emery, Bob Remington ¥ • j- 7 CROSS COUNTRY SKIING The 1987 ’88 ski season will hold many great memories for the X-C Ski Team members. The season began with a ten day trip to West Yel lowstone Montana where the team was able to ski on the early snows of the plateaus near West Yellowstone at elevations near 7000 feet. Many U S. Ski team members and coaches were on hand during the trip. Two months later the seventh annual Telstar relays produced a great day of racing, as the Telstar 1 Team finished fourth in a field of 46 teams. We’ll certainly remember Beandog’s diving tag in the arena! The Girls’ State Meet looked like a dismal adventure going in, as Kristen Powell had been lost for the season due to an injury. Denise Gauthier and Paula Michaud turned in their usual great performances, as well as Karen Simmons and Angela Applin, taking fifth place for the Girls. The Boy’s State Meet was a disaster in a team sense, however certain members had excellent races. Mike Miller broke a binding on the first downhill, and was unable to finish the race. Brant Remington took a major crash on the largest of courses’ downhills, as well as being forced off the course by another skier, he was barely able to stagger across the finish line. Nathan Miserocchi however had an excellent race, finishing 7th, and proving he was one of the best skiers in the state, Jamie Blake had a great race also, finishing 14th. Nathan Bean and Jason Miserocchi skied their best race of the season to complete the team scoring. The future looks great for Telstar, as only two team members shall be lost to graduation. We’ll miss both of you, Karen, and Denise! ✓ _ Girl’s Nordic L. to R.: Karen Simmons. Angela Applin, Paula Michaud, Denise Gauthier. X S W BOYS’ BASKETBALL The ’87-’88 basketball team played their way to a winless regular season, with the only win of the year coming over Sacopee Valley during the Christmas Tournament. The team was led by senior co-captains Greg Gould and Matt York. Greg was the leading rebounder and defensive stalwart, and Matt the leading scorer — Matt scored well over 300 points to place himself in the top five scorers. Juniors Rick Roy, Jim Merrill, and Gary Wil¬ liamson provided speed, defense, and rebounding for the team. Underclassmen Aaron Bean, Mike Clark, Tim Chapman, Josh Chamberlain, Jim Hutchins, and Nate Buckman provided depth, and are the future of the team. Developing skills and confidence, along with a positive attitude, is the key to the coming seasons. 7 w •i r J.V. As a result of Telstar moving into the Mountain Valley Conference (M.V.C.), the new teams we found proved to be tough competition. Although our season was met with many defeats, the girls continued to give their best during each per¬ formance. In the midst of so much defeat, I feel confident the girls learned much from this sea¬ sons’ knocks. For me, being the girls first year coach, I have learned a great deal with them. With Telstar now included in the MVC, the girls basketball teams can expect to meet tough com¬ petition for many years to come. Good luck to all the girls of the 1987-88 Rebels Team. y y The Runnin’ Rebel’s girls’ track team had an outstanding season (11-1) in 1987 and is looking forward to an equally exciting season in 1988. The team will have fifteen returning lettermen led by seniors Deb Bodwell, April Cole, Diana Moxcey, Ellen Hastings, Rita Head, Christine Hunt, Val Morton, Missy Palmer, Karen Simmons, and our super fourth year man¬ ager Shelley Rice. A terrific group of underclassmen who went to the State Meet last year including Paula Michaud, Amy Blake, Sher¬ ry Nichols and Shannan Tyler along with many other very talented underclassmen offer promise for another exciting and successful season.
