To the Class of 1985: Samuel Clemens, universally known as Mark Twain, was one of America’s most famous comic writers and was possibly one of the few original satirists this country has produced. Through Twain, Clemens was able to question the meaning and value of “modern man.” As Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn traveled from one detailed adventure to another, they gathered more educational experience than will ever exist within the walls of a school building. Education must be more than textbooks, formulas, and tests: It s the people you are sharing the experience with. It ' s the process of finding out “why” and not just because some person said it was so. It ' s the satisfaction of knowing that you met a dif¬ ficult task and were equal to the challenge. It s being able to look back upon the past with mixed emotions while turning to meet the next challenge. As you step to meet the next challenge, be reminded that know ledge is only powerful if you know how to use it effectively and that no one can make it without his or her friends. You, the Class of 1985, therefore would do well to consider Telstar Regional High School as a vast storehouse from which each may take what you will; the only limitations are those placed upon you by your own ability and effort.
