“
Superintendent and Principal Dr. Wayne F. Gersen, Supt. I feel especially close to the Class of 1981, since we spent our first three years at Telstar together. I hope that each of you has found your four years at Telstar rewarding, challenging, and enjoyable. You worked hard to earn your diploma, and deserve the praise of your parents, teachers, and classmates for this accomplishment. Please stay in touch so that we can determine how we can make schooling an even better experience for future students in SAD ft 44. Mr. Warren E. Bouchard Principal. The diplomas that you, the Class of 1981, will receive are of varying value. You alone can be sure of the value of the meaning of this symbol. For some, the diploma will symbolize nothing, for some have been passive recipients of the knowledge and skills that can be acquired at Telstar. For many of you, however, your diploma will symbolize a great deal. It will symbolize four years of hard work; a sense of accomplishment; a willing¬ ness to learn from everything and everybody; and most importantly it will symbolize a discovery of “self-being.” I trust that the end of your high school days will mark the beginning of the promise of a bright future. 2 Susan Osgood DEDICATION Our Father, you have seen fit to terminate these lives, that you have given. We thank you for the memories that linger on. As we think of them: Teach us to num¬ ber our days that we might apply our hearts unto wisdom. We pray in Jesus name. Amen. 3 JmfriJ Vlaria Jars Jbotter _ ‘JnJersion “Kalle Klump” LIKES: food, sleep, my American kid sister Heidi, men, friends, white wine, hiking. VieI Gluck MY OPINION ABOUT THE U S A. SO FAR. by Lars Rasmussen 1 think that it is a very fine country if you look at the nature in¬ stead of looking at the social side of the U.S.A. I mean if you get sick or something like that, you have to go to the hospital, that is very expensive over here. I like the Americans very much. They are very friendly even when, you haven ' t seen them before, but they like things on their own way. For example, they like to do all things themselves in¬ stead of going to the garage with their car. They fix it themselves every time. The food over here is also very much different from where I come from and they eat at different times. In the start over here, it was hard to learn to eat the food here. They eat more like hot dogs and sandwiches instead of what we in my country call real food. After a while over here you get use to it, and it is just as good as the food you were used to at home. Another thing that is much different from home is the school system. It is much more closed over here. You can ' t go out in the free periods; you can only go to the bathroom if you have a pass; you have to stay all seven hours every day, otherwise you get suspended. You can ' t go to school three days or something like that. That kind of thing we don ' t have back at home. At home we will call it old fashioned school. It is maybe because the children destroy much more over here and they can ' t have all the good things we can at home. As I said, the nature over here is very beautiful and almost the prettiest I have ever seen. I must say that I like America, but I couldn ' t live over here for the rest of my life. We would like to tell you all that we really enjoy our stay at Telstar Regional High School. When we came we looked forward to sports, homecoming, winter carnival but now we have to look back at all the fun we had that now it makes us cry. We sure will miss our teachers, who supported us very much in learning about the U.S. and the American language. We would also like to thank all you guys in the senior class and all other classes for your big help through the whole year. 101 0 c -0 a e o TELSTAR MARCHING BAND FRYEBURG FAIR gf 1 , Q- () Q.-. 1st PLACE IN FRYEBURG FAIR MARCHING COMPETITION - 1 . 102 ZODIAC STAFF STAFF MEMBERS CCF EDITORS M. Rasmussen On August 15, 1980, we, the Gun¬ thers, went to Portland Jetport full of excitement and anticipation, to pick up Lars M. Rasmussen, our Danish foreign exchange student. Lars was to live with us for ten months, attend school and share our lives. The following weeks were filled with adjustments, fun, learning, school, sight-seeing, and a little anger and frustration was thrown in. Then, last January 23rd, when we lost Lars in an automobile accident, part of our lives was gone forever. Although he was only with us for five months, he was a part of our family. We loved him, scolded him, and worried about him as our son. Words alone are not enough to express how we felt about Lars, but his memory will be with us always. Mike Merrill The first day Mike came to Telstar he made friends really quick because he was so funny and out going. He touched everyone that he met in a special way that we’ll never forget. He played varsity soccer and was a dedicated field hockey fan. In the short time he was here he changed all of us with his songs and laughter. His memory will be with us forever. TRIBUTE TO DAVID MYERS David Myers is to be remembered as one of the most avid Telstar Athletic Boosters. Whether it be yelling encourage¬ ment to his two sons, trying to help a coach do his job, or asking where the foul pole was, one always knew how David stood con¬ cerning athletic matters. He will be greatly missed by all of those people who were ever associated with Telstar Athletics. by Peter Brown 110 PATRONS Aker’s Ski Inc., Andover, Me. 04216 Bethel Auto Sales, Rt. 2 Bethel, Me.
