The classes sponsored the publication of the school newspaper, “The Marksman.” The students did all the writing, lay- out, and paste-up for the bi-weekly publication. Also the students worked many long hours during and after school to produce the “1971 Sagittarius. What the World Needs Now Under the guidance of Mr. Gorman, the Swing Choir organized and presented Tell Town Capers with “What The World Needs Now as their theme. The Blue Moon Combo performed a wide variety of popular hits for the annual occasion as Craig Ewing was featured on the tromboqe and cornet. They ended the year with a record of 9-1, completely shutting out four of their opponents. These six members were chosen for the all conference team: Steve Loch- mueller, tackle; Bill Coultas,guard; Tom Polster, linebacker; Junie Bryant, end; Rick Alvey, fullback; Mike Smith, quarterback. Rick was also named the most valuable player in the S1AC “B” division. Tell City’s defensive team is quick on the draw as this Castle Knight does not have a chance against Dale Sprinkle, Steve Lochmueller, and Rick Alvey. Marksmen Close Year With 17-3 The Marksmen met many opponents who challenged their assumptions and intended to wreck their victory boat. They worked hard to overcome their own tendency to withdraw when hurt, and bounced back to many hard-won rewards. The team again has had a winning season as they closed the regular season of play with a record of 17-3. Led by 6’7” Steve Lochmueller and senior starters Rick Alvey and Mike Smith, Tell City had only three losses to North, Jasper, and South Spencer. Goes to Semi-State For the first time in 10 years, Tell City advanced to the Evansville semi-state by winning the Boonville Sectional and the Evansville Regional. The Marksmen overcame Princeton in the afternoon game of the regional by a score of 73 8. They took the Reitz Panthers easily in the night game with a score of 74-54, to win the champion- ship. The following week the Marksmen again traveled to Evansville for a bout with Loogoottee in the Semi-State. In an exciting contest, which wasn t decided until the final seconds, the Marksmen fell to the Lions by a heartbreaking 3 point margin.
