Varsity Football Another Winner for THS The 1980 varsity football team achieved THS’s second consecutive winning season since 1966. The Indians finished with a five win, four loss record and tied for second place in the SCAA. The team also finished second in the Enquirer and News area Class D rankings. The season had a slow start as the gridders were shut out their first three games. With a little more work, they came back to win five of their last six games. Three of those five were shutouts. The Indians managed to beat ever-tough North Adams 9 to 0 this season which THS hasn't done since 1964. When the playoffs came around, Tek-onsha and North Adams met agin and the Indians beat the Rams once more 14 to 6. Five seniors received post season honors in football. Bob Wiescholek received All-Conference, All-Area and All-State Honorable Mention, for his positions of offensive center and defensive tackle. Todd Sherwood was selected for All-Conference and All-Area, for performance at quarterback and linebacker. Ralf Zeitler, German exchange student, received All-Conference and All-Area for his kicking talents. Scott Doolittle and Scott Waffle both received All-Conference Honorable Mention. They also were chosen for All-Area Honorable Mention, and All-Area First Team Offense, respectively, for their performances as two-way linemen. All in all, the season was satisfactory, as the team placed well in the conference and gave THS another winning record.
