Kneeling'-Jose Narez BASKETBALL season opened January 10th at the local court. Our first tilt was with Barstow and although our teams were defeated, the score does not tell the tale. Tehachapi C173 vs. Barstow C223 This game was a battle from start to finish. It was a very evenly matched affair with Tehachapi in the lead for more than half the total score. It was a fine game and we showed Barstow that our boys were no easy team to beat. Tehachapi C143 vs. Lancaster C133 On January 13th, in a fast and thrilling game, Tehachapi defeated the strong Lancaster team with its many substitutes. Tehachapi C193 vs. Victorville C183 Victorville's outdoor court, slippery in places, gave Tehachapi something to think about and probably was the cause of the close score. Victorville had the advantage on its own court and gave our boys a hard game. After much fighting in the last quarter we won, showing the results of team-work. The shooting passing and all- around playing showed the results of practice. Tehachapi C213 vs. Lone Pine C173 Another practice game was won and added to Tehachapi's list of victories. It was a good game from the spectators' point of view. for it was a fast battle to the last minute. Tehachapi C171 vs. Victorville C91 Victorville came and fell. Tehachapi had no trouble in taking Victorville into camp. Victorville fought hard but could not find the bucket and was clearly out- classed in every department by the fast Tehachapi squad, showing Tehachapi's strength when she is in the right condition. Gordon Fraser was high point man for Tehachapi. Tehachapi C211 vs. Lancaster C281 Although Tehachapi lost, our boys played a good game. Their team..work, shoot- ing, passing and all-around playing was extremely good. The game was a tight one. First one, then the other would lead. Because of lack of substitutes our boys became tired and Lancaster was able to forge ahead toward the end of the game. Ernest Capdeville was the star of the game, finding the basket most of the time, and drew cries of admiration from the crowd. Tehachapi C181 vs. Shafter C301 Although Shafter won this game it was exciting from start to finish. Tehachapi did not expect to win, as the Shafter team was strong and powerful, but we gave them a good fight. Tehachapi C91 vs. Barstow C391 Our last league game was played at Barstow. We lost the game, but not without fight, as we knew Barstow to be the strongest team in the league. Tehachapi was not defeated nearly as badly as the score indicates, and a great deal of credit is due to the players. Tehachapi C111 vs. Lone Pine C151 Tehachapi went to Lone Pine for the last game of the season. The game was a hot contest, with Lone Pine in the lead until the beginning of the second half.
