High Honors Given to Six Seniors, Sixteen Juniors at National Honor Society Ceremonies To be chosen for the National Honor Society is the greatest honor to come to a student during his high school career. Thus began National Honor Society President Marvin Pflaumer 's introductory speech at the induction services February 24. 1961. All students with a three point grade average are eligible to be considered for membership in this or- ganization. Six seniors and sixteen juniors were in- ducted this year after being selected by the teachers through ratings on scholarship, service, leadership, and character. Mrs. Martha Budd, English teacher at Te- cuniseh for fifteen years, was chosen as an honorary member by the senior members. SEATED: Barbara Wolter, Kathy Layton, Ethel McKinney, Donna Hecathorn. I Student Council Designed to Give Experience in Self -Government SEATED: Janis Armstrong, James Haurk, Barbara Kitchen, Dale Kennedy, Mary Jane Staup, and Sue Studebaker. STANDING: George Bolton, Steve Gordon, Dick Wildman, Andy Barnhart, Lowell McGlothin, Marvin Lair, and Dick Ross. OFFICERS What kind of program shall we plan for Homecoming this year? This question might very well have been spoken during a student council meeting this year, since almost every meeting begins with problems similar to this one. Along with the Home- coming festivities, student council mem- bers also planned the Christmas dance, Honor Day Banquet, and noontime ac- tivities. This organization is composed of one representative from each homeroom and is guided by Mr. W. J. Reynolds in planning for the welfare' of the students of Tecumseh. First Year for Smoke Signal Staff For the first time in four years a regularly sched- uled newspaper was circulated at Tecumseh High School this year. Guided by Mr. Thomas Martin, the journalism class printed monthly issues of the Smoke Signal, which was read eagerly by students and faculty alike. LEFT TO RIGHT: Bonnie Brady. Jana Studebaker. Community and School Served by Art Club The Art Club, advised by Mrs. Aileen Acton, provides an extracurricular outlet for students talented in the creative arts. Projects for this year have included various field trips to art exhibits, the making and printing of the art room drapes, and a special foreign art exhibit. The World's Youth at Art. ' The club also sent local students' work to a United Nations Art Branch to exchange pic- tures and ideas with students in foreign countries.
