Commencemen t-1 961 At the commencement exercises, Dick Hutchinson was honored as the valedictorian and Joanne Whitacre was honored as the salutatorian of the Class of 1961. Hugh Wallace received the coveted citizenship award. The members of the Class of 1961 were graduated at the first outdoor commencement held at Tecumseh Field.
