♦ ♦ ♦ The Future's So Bright f n March 21. I9SS the eleventh annual Academic Top Ten Ranquet was held at Tecumseh Jr. -Sr. High School. A delicious pot luck supper was enjoyed by the faculty, students, and their families. Academic Top Ten honors were given to members of grades 7-12. and six students with the most improved averages (two from each grade. 10-12) were recognized. Mrs. Jo Anne Owens-Hauslar of the State Department of Educaiton Health and Physical Education Division told these deserving THS students, among many other interesting points, that their ,future's so bright, you gotta wear shades. by Paula Kaufman Senior and junior Top Ten honorees. All the Way to by Dana Ramsey May the bus be with you . .. fating again! (It’s in the book.) State OSPBDWG. Dirty Dancing. Hoosiers. and Bobby Knight. These were just a few factors which contributed to the Lady Indians' Stale berth and also put the icing on the cake of a great season. With a season record of 19-4 the team has made their mark in THS history In the district finals, the girls defeated the Omaha Cathedral Cardinals to earn their trip to the State Tournament and their second championship title of the year. Almost every day brought a new surprise as the team was showered with cards, flowers, balloons, and signs. The last week of practice brought a few new twists. Seven o'clock practices came awfully early, but the monotony of the afternoon sessions were disrupted by a change in facilities as the girls took to the playground slab. But nothing could have been more inspirational than the team spaghetti and movie party at Linda Ner Kerner's. the eve of the big game. Finally the day arrived. The team. State bound by 6 a m., feasted on spaghetti, pancakes, hamburger patties. scrambled eggs, ice cream, tea. and O.J. It's in the book! As the team departed they were greeted by roadside signs and who could forget Nick Wenzl and his Peace Bus. Although a good game was played by both the Indians and the Bridgeport 1st Ladies, unfortunately someone had to lose: more unfortunate was the fact that it was the Lady Indians. Tears became instant as the girls walked away from a 59-64 defeat. The end of the greatest girls basketball season in THS history was here. We re number one1

Athletes Honored by Tracy Cox Angela Beck, head girls basketball coach for the University of Nebraska Lincoln. was the guest speaker at Tecumseh's athletic banquet on April 29. Outstanding cross country athletes were Jodi Hood and Scott Grof. Jodi received the Academic AII-State award and Scott was an individual state qualifier. Mike Stauffer was recognized as the outstanding football team member. Mike and Jerome Christen were honored with an AII-State team honorable mention. Volleyball's most valuable player was Laura Mandery. She earned a place on the All-State Second Team. Laura was also recognized as the outstanding player for girls basketball: she received an All-State honorable mention. For the boys basketball team. Mike Stauffer was named the outstanding athlete. Kevin Parrish was recognized as the outstanding wrestler for 1987-88. Mike Stauffer was presented the Larry D. Anderson award in golf. The outstanding athletes for golf and boys and girls track were not announced because of incomplete seasons. The basketball girls receiving their state medals. And the winners are: Paula K. — Academic All-State. volleyball; Jodi H Academic All-State, cross country, and outstanding girls cross country; Laura M. — outstanding volleyball and girls basketball; Michelle R. . Kevin P. —outstanding wrestling; Mike S. — outstanding boys basketball and football; Scot! G. outstanding boys cross country. Athletic 6a nq,
