Paine-vs-Liberty High School Mock trial team — Period 8 by Rebecca Staley This year's mock trial took place in Nebraska City, both teams were narrowly defeated by Platlsmouth. Team 2 consisted of Shane Mer-cure. Shane Boardman. Jason Lacey. and Heather Weiss as lawyers and Dana Ramsey. Bill Morrissey, and Michelle Rathe. Shane Mer-cure also served as one of the witnesses. Team 8 consisted of Rebecca Staley. Brent Pope and Jodi Hood as lawyers and Michelle Bauers. Scott Grof. and Stephanie Waring were the witnesses. After having participated in mock trial for the last two years. I feel that it was very educational and yet at the same time it was a lot of fun! Scott G. anxiously awaits his turn. After Hours jfm I 3:30 p.m. the daily JCi’M countdown begins at V school. Students start to fidget and tap their toes. Finally. the bell rings at 3.35 and within a few minutes the school is almost empty. Where does everyone go? Recently a survey was taken at THS that posed the question. What do you usually do after school? The results showed that the majority of students who answered the survey were engaged in sports after school. The remaining results, in order of popularity, were: working, watching TV. driving around, eating, doing homework. and sleeping. Other activities that were written in included playing the guitar and listening to music. Some of the places where the students of THS work are Dr. Mann's office. Helen's Cafe, the hospital. Ace Cafe. Hilltop. Vet's Club. Gary's Shop for Less, and Maple Grove Home. The most positive aspect of this survey is the fact that most THS students actively pursue some sort of activity after school. Act-in-Onet CAGEBIRDS The gang's all here — now what do we do 7 e Act Play Gazer and Gloom what a wild pair' AGE BIRDS by Day id Compton was the one act play performed this year. The all-female cast put on quite a show at the Conference competition (after how many practices?). and they brought home the second place trophy. This was the first one act trophy ever received by THS. Unfortunately. they were unable to compete at Districts because of a scheduling error; this meant that they could not qualify for the state competition. But the show went on as the cast performed CAGEBIRDS in the elementary auditorium on October 17. This was the first time that a one act play had been performed for the public at THS. CAGEBIRDS is a play about eight women whose inhibitions have taken control of their lives. It exposes the fears of each of the women and the lengths that they go to to avoid facing them. The cast included: Ellen Kuhl as Gossip. Jennene Shuey as Gloom. Nicole Behrends as Gazer. Paula Kaufman as Twitting. Amy Bartels as Guzzler. Jonee Steinauer as Thump.
