There must be a reason behind that smile! alf the fun of high rm school is looking for-™ ward to the many events and activities that occur over the course of the year. mean, without anticipation there would be little or no excitement. And THS students thrive on excitement! The 1987-88 Tomahawk covers (the staff has done its best) what students were looking at in academics. sports, and organizations, now we will be able to look back on the memories and moments. After all. isn't that what a yearbook is for? Our parents and grandparents tell us youngin's that these are the best days of our lives, and they're probably right (but we will never admit it). A few years down the road, as we are preparing for yet another class reunion, we'll look back through these pages and smile. The members of the Tecumseh Toma ha wk staff would like to dedicate this volume to our teacher and sponsor. Mrs. Sheryl Allen, for all of her help, guidance, and patience. Looking Back 2 Division Student Life On Student Life It '$ Homecoming! It s mock trial! It s student life at THS! And it doesn 7 stop there! Looking back on the excitement and enjoyment that was felt during school activities, it is hard not to smile. Do you remember how hilarious Tyler Evans was as Desperate Ambrose in the all-school play ? Can you remember the smiles on Brenda s and Jerome s faces when they became queen and king? Who can possibly forget graduation? (Certainly not the Seniors!) These happenings all share one common trait — they occurred and were part of the life at THS! It is the people of our school that make these activities so memorable. It is the students that kept us looking forward to events that hadn 7 happened yet. Looking back, maybe that's because it was the students who made things happen. Pucker up you lucky pigI Here comes Uncle George! Division Student Life 3 T.H.S. The work started off with super hero or sixties day. The best super hero was Terry superwoman Kerr and Jamie Carson was a sixties smash: Tuesday was Professional day and Keith Osterhoudt was a Navy officer. Wednesday was interchange or inside out. Jerome Christen became the T.H.S. girls ' greatest competition and Dana Ramsey was inside oul. Thursday was rebel or rock-n-roll: Miss Muller's true self came out and Mrs. Hutt. along with Mrs. Sapp, made the kitchen really rock. Friday was Indian or black and gold. Amy Boh ling's Indian attire was a real hit and Lara Sand was covered beyond recognition in black and gold paint. On Thursday night, the traditional bonfire tvas held. The best skit award went to FBLA with their version of Hee Haw. On Friday afternoon, the T.H.S. class paraded to the square for the pep rally. The first class float contest was held: seniors came out on top with their float consisting of chicken wire and 36 rolls of T.P.I The best hall decoration was by the junior class. The kiss the pig contest was held again by the FBLA. This years winners were Mr. Czapla. Mr. Weiss and Michelle Bauers. What do you usually do after school? The results showed that the majority of students who answered the survey were engaged in sports after school. The remaining results, in order of popularity, were: working, watching TV. driving around, eating, doing homework. and sleeping. Other activities that were written in included playing the guitar and listening to music. Some of the places where the students of THS work are Dr. Mann's office. Helen's Cafe, the hospital. Ace Cafe. Hilltop. Vet's Club. Gary's Shop for Less, and Maple Grove Home. The most positive aspect of this survey is the fact that most THS students actively pursue some sort of activity after school. But the show went on as the cast performed CAGEBIRDS in the elementary auditorium on October 17. This was the first time that a one act play had been performed for the public at THS. CAGEBIRDS is a play about eight women whose inhibitions have taken control of their lives. It exposes the fears of each of the women and the lengths that they go to to avoid facing them. These were just a few factors which contributed to the Lady Indians' Stale berth and also put the icing on the cake of a great season. With a season record of 19-4 the team has made their mark in THS history In the district finals, the girls defeated the Omaha Cathedral Cardinals to earn their trip to the State Tournament and their second championship title of the year. Almost every day brought a new surprise as the team was showered with cards, flowers, balloons, and signs. The last week of practice brought a few new twists. Seven o'clock practices came awfully early, but the monotony of the afternoon sessions were disrupted by a change in facilities as the girls took to the playground slab. But nothing could have been more inspirational than the team spaghetti and movie party at Linda Ner Kerner's. the eve of the big game. Finally the day arrived. The team. Although a good game was played by both the Indians and the Bridgeport 1st Ladies, unfortunately someone had to lose: more unfortunate was the fact that it was the Lady Indians. The squad was led by only six seniors, but what they lacked in experience they made up for with pride and determination. But not even the biggest tribe of Indians could have won the war that faced the THS Gridiron Grapplers. With a schedule that consisted of four Class B and four C-l teams, the Indians who dropped to C-2. played only one team (Conestoga) in their own class. When the season came to a close, the Indians faced an 0-9 record. Although they never won a game, it was still a very interesting season. The team developed the attitude that if they couldn't win. then they were sure going to have fun trying. And having fun was what they did. all the way to the final game against Palmy- ra. where everyone on the team got into the action. I hi game was probably the most memorable and the most unusual. The linemen switched from blockers to ball carriers. 1 -towns only touchdown of the game was even scored bv a lineman (Jerome Christen). The team, rappin' out. It 's a tribute to the team that they remained as positive as they did. Up until the last game, they were still practicing to win. Mr Richards Mike Puchalla and Bob Boh-ling also proved to be just as good at carrying the ball as they were at blocking. To sum it all up. it wasn 7 a very productive season as far as scoring goes, but everyone had fun and learned a lot which was. after all. the main goal of the season. ) O.K.. let 's get this straight. 1987-1988 Football Scores THS VS Opp lecumseh 0 48 Milford Tecumseh 6 23 Southern Tecumseh 6 38 Conestoga Tecumseh 0 36 Falls City Tecumseh 0 27 Tri County T ecumseh 6 40 Syracuse Tecumseh 0 61 Auburn Tecumseh 0 22 Wilber Tecumseh 7 60 Palmyra OSPBDWG by Dana Ramsey J ver the past years the c Tecumseh girls' bas- ketball team has been satisfied with being Conference Runner-ups. Taking Up The Slack by Ted Morrissey rhe THS boys' basketball team began yet another eventful season, but the performance of the previous year would be hard to beat. The Indians had graduated several key players who helped lead the team to the 1987 State Tournament. Having that same goal in mind, the Indians came out fighting hard under the leadership of seniors Andy DeFreece and Mike Stauffer. By the end of the season, the Indians had accumulated an 8-11 record. It was evident that the ball club had some very good young talent that was improving rapidly. As you look back, the bestest memories will probably be related in some way to the organizations that you belonged to. And there were plenty to choose from. Do you remember that wonderful all-purpose fundraiser known as trash pick-up? More than once Michelle Stauffer and the rest of the Art Club could be seen painting windows downtown. Of course. Bone and Bubs and the Ecology Club gang could be found spending their fall Saturdays working walnuts. Division Organizations 51 Making Progress by Ted Morrissey he year of 87-88 has seen progressive changes occur. much of it is due to the cooperation of the T-Club members. T-Club would also like to update the Outstanding Athlete ’ plaque hanging in the west hallway and change the club s constitution. To help finance these activities. the organization picked up trash and sold film coupons. The total profits amounted to over $500 which enabled the club to get a good start on their projects. The theme was Rock Around the Clock ; very descriptive of the 10 hours that the participants danced for a good cause. For the first time, the FBLA senior members took part in a Career Day. Several seniors traveled to Lincoln to shadow a businessperson in a career they were interested in. The activity was a fun and interesting learning experience for those who participated.
