ad fad n: practice followed foe a time with exaggerated zea I C AZC Fads show up everywhere you look, and at THS you didn't have to look very long. When the weather was warm enough, people were wearing LECgoons or something similar, which are brightly colored, wildly patterned shorts. Hawaiian print and paint splashed shirts were also seen paired with walking shorts or cropped pants. As the weather got cooler, new fads appeared. People were seen wearing sweaters in everything from crew necks to deep V'd shaker knits. Shirts were bigger and longer in vivid colors and pastels, geometric prints, plaids, flowered prints, and paisley. These prints also showed up in pants and jeans. The new idea in pants was stirrup or stretch pants, but jeans were still the basic in everyone's wardrobe. Levi's 501 jeans were popular for both guys and girls, and for girls, LEE brand button fly jeans were available. Guys were seen wearing T-shirts, polos, sweatshirts, oxfords, sweaters, and sweater vests. The in coat was a Tec-umseh Indians jacket or letter jacket which held the letters and medals the wearer earned in sports or academics. To find out how much longer for the 3:35 bell to ring, a lot of people looked at unusual watches made by SWATCH, A WA TCH, and others. Even the feet were well dressed. As al- ways, flats were popular with the girls. So were cuffed boots, tennis shoes, loafers, and, for dressier occasions, pumps. For guys, high top basketball shoes were popular, left untied of course, deck shoes, worn without socks, and penny loafers. The newest thing in basketball shoes was NIKE's AIR JORDANS, named for Michael Jordan of the Chicago Bulls. There are many other fads that there is neither time nor space to mention here, but they're around. These fads may last for 1 or 2 years, or even more, but one thing we can be sure of - new fads will be back next year, strong as ever. 3
