The change into the Twin Rivers Conference caused a scheduling problem and only eight instead of the usual nine games were played. The only conference team not on the schedule was Blair. The games were equally divided between home and away. The season got off to a bad start due to a 35-6 loss to Auburn. Auburn, earning only one touchdown, added their other points by pass interceptions. fumble recoveries and a safety. The glumness of the season changed on the next outing as the Indians defeated a heavily favored Plattsmouth team. 22-14. The on again off again season seemed to ring true as Tecumseh lost their third game to Syracuse. 14-7. (after an open Friday) won their fourth over Johnson-Brock. 21-0. lost to Nebraska City. 17-6, won over Pawnee City on Homecoming. 14-7. and lost to Falls City. 24-14. The final game should have ended with a victory to make the zigzag pattern hold true; but the conference champion Fair-bury Jeffs buried Tecumseh. 42-23. The Indians did. however, score more points on the Jeffs than any team this year. Elected team captains were Spence McPherrin and Bob Feurer with each senior getting his chance to hold the position throughout the season. Captains McPherrin and Feurer both made the Southern Division All-Conference team and received their awards at the conference play-off between Fairbury and Blair. 28 This is great, but where's the other team? After eight years of wrestling, the team has brought home a trophy. ‘Not for first, but a trophy all the same. The team has had several opportunities, but the closest it has come was fourth place. “The team finished runnerup in the Southeast Consolidated Invitational Tournament this year, good enough to win one of the two trophies. Trophy hopes for next year are pinned on six returning junior regulars and a host of less experienced wrestlers.” THS wrestling has improved greatly over the years which it has been here. Coachs this year were Rich Craig, head coach and Rick Elmore, assistant coach. A total of 17 wrestlers started the year. Bob Feurer ended up second in the state meet. His final record was 26-2. Fred Seckman and Gary Lohmeier both ended up fourth in the District Meet. Seckman’s record was 4-14 and Lohmeier’s record was 16-11. Wrestlers Statistics: Varsity 98 lbs.. Pat Mahoney 0-1 105 lbs.. The first loss was to Nebraska City, who won 144 to Tecumseh’s 163. At the Tri-County Invitational. Tecumseh took last out of 12 other teams; Fairbury took first. At a triangular, another loss was recorded. Tri-County had 179. Barnston had 190. and Tecumseh had a 213. At Fairbury, Tecumseh was whipped 123 to 166. Next disappointing loss was to Wymore Southern, 176 to 210. At Auburn, another triangular. Tecumseh was out classed by Auburn and lost to Tarkio by 5. Team scoring was Auburn 118. Tarkio 144. and Tecumseh 149. Again, Tecumseh met a powerful hitting team at Falls City losing 132 to 165. At Twin River’s Conference. Auburn took first while Tecumseh placed eighth. Finally, the season came to an end with districts being held at Hastings. Because of rain, districts changed to Friend. Tecumseh finished second to last defeating Sandy Creek. If, from August. 1972 to May. 1973, students in our system have developed some measure of dignity, and respect for property, peers, parents, and educators, then I would consider our situation a successful one. In some areas as previously noted we have made sufficient progress, in others little or none. In the year to come our goal is to expand our efforts toward becoming a student-centered system, thereby facilitating to a large degree, more informal humanistic teacher-student relationships. It will be a difficult task; however one which can be met by dedication on the part of all concerned. The future looks bright for our school and its constituents. —Donald V. Ziess. Principal Each year, graduates are discovering that employment and other goals in life are being governed, ever increasingly, by the demand of a technological society for an educated work force. The Tecumseh Public Schools have consistently attempted to keep its curriculum current with the demands of society. Although we have failed partially in isolated areas, our successes far outweigh our setbacks, and our graduates enter life better versed in work skills and habits than many other schools. This is why Tecumseh has been, and still is, the educational leader in southeast Nebraska. For providing these educational opportunities for the students, we must extend a large ‘Thank you” to the patrons of our district for consistently supporting a quality educational program. —Richard A. Brommer. Superintendent Larry Dunn teaches Typing classes. General Business. Economics, and Business Law during school each day. He is the football coach, assistant track, and T-Club sponsor. Assuming responsibility for the development of the guidance program, the counselor recognizes the school’s basic purpose is the education and development of each individual student. A counselor contributes to these educational purposes by providing services which directly support the instructional program and those responsible for it. In addition, non-instructional services contributing to the total psycho-social development of students are provided. As our culture places more and more emphasis on educating the WHOLE child, the counselor’s role broadens and reaches out to assist anyone desiring a “sense of self” to become all that he or she is capable of achieving.
