«ve e f . . .our world today is full of people surging in every direction-going places, doing things, getting involved. People are continually looking for new things that will mean something both to them and to the world. They expand their outlook on life and push outward. The Tomahawk staff of 1971 decided they would compare this movement of people with the movement of water. Ripples created in water move outward, growing and growing--just like people’s ideas. They expand, merge, disappear, and become exciting waves. Each idea or ripple is different than the others. People are different, too. We cry out to be separate individuals yet comparable to others. Human nature and Mother nature. They are so different, yet so alike. As we look back over the years, waves of memories come rushing toward us. All the fun, excitement, and problems of growing up have expanded our outlook on life. We should never stop learning, progressing, creating. Little ripples make big waves, and big waves continue on to make wonderful memories--memories through. . . sports................................................ 5 activities............................................25 organizations.........................................47 classes...............................................71 Bill Behrends . . It is a sport in which 10 to 30 participants run a one and one-half to three mile pre-set course on a hilly area, park, or golf course. Points are scored by individuals taking first to tenth place in the race. Placings may be cut down depending upon the number of participants. Coached by Stan Martin the cross country team competed in three meets during the 1970 season. They were dual meets at Tecumseh and Beatrice and an Indivitational meet at Auburn High School. Although cross country is relatively new to THS it has grown in popularity. i i Humboldt-18 Auburn Invitational Beatrice-40 Tecumseh-18 Tecumseh-4 th Tecumseh-22 basketball 70-71 This year our basketball team posted a winning season, with an eleven and seven record. Tecumseh’s National Honor Society activated itself this year, holding regular meetings and participating in different projects. The main money-making project for the members was selling baked goods once a week for two months after school. With the money they earned, pins were bought for the new members who were initiated in April. N.H.S. sponsored the annual Easter Convocation this spring. Students gave the invocation and benediction and Mr. Kirkendall delivered a fire-an-brimstone sermon. The climax of the 1971 year was the installation of new members in a special candle-lighting ceremony. Above, president Lyle Stephens welcomes new members. Other officers include Jane Leuenberger, vice-president; Dan Piersol, treasurer; and Sharlet Petersen, secretary. 54 student council Behind the daily classroom scenes that make up the school year, behind the Student handbook typed and stapled last summer, lies the Student Council. A new dress code allowing pants for girls and sandals for boys started off the year in Stuco. All sorts of little things started tumbling in after that--the purchase of a tape player, making up the selling list for basketball and football games, running the pop machine, introducing the lyceums and convocations, and of course, sponsoring Homecoming. Stuco officers (right), no matter what the weather was, always looked ready to dive right into student government.
