The Tomahawk It is with satisfaction that the annual staff presents this tomahawk, not only as a record of 1967, but as a permanent and lasting treasure of the golden moments of our years at Tecumseh High. To a few it is just a high school but to the majority of students it is the place where they learned together, shared together, and had fun together. We want to thank you for all the trust, confidence, wisdom, understanding, friendshipand love you have given us through these years. But most of all we offer this dedication to express our appreciation to you for providing the new school building that has become permanent in our memories of our high school years. You have given us the opportunity of receiving a varied education that will be invaluable to us in future years. We have often heard that these are the happiest days of our lives and we recognize that you have helped to make it so. We are youngandare learning to accept responsibility but we know we are always able to ask for guidance and assistance from you. 2 ADMINISTRATION Supt. Turning from the summer's fun to the routine of school life, the Class of '67 found time to invest themselves with the customary signs of Senoritis . Senior officers shouldered the burden of planning the many senior activities and functions. Money making projects were held throughout the year to raise funds for the traditional sneak trip to the Lake of the Ozark's Among the projects were a work day, magazine sales, and serving dinners at the Music Clinic, So, Seniors, take one last look back before you go your separate ways, and you will see yourself lost in the whirl of school activities—one three-hundredth of the student body doing your part to make the school year run smoothly. You were no longer followers, but leaders—the heads of organizations, the stars in sports, the best informed, the most mature—The Seniors. Now if you'll just settle down, we'11 be done by tomorrow. Class of ’67 Ends Reign The Senior year in high school will always he a memory lo recall with fondness . . In future years we will recall ... the reading oj Hamlet in our English classes . . . fun at the Senior breakfast ... the hard work involved in perfecting the class play hut enjoying the rewards upon completion . . . postponing the completion of our term papers . . . exchanging graduation pictures and cards . . receiving our diplomas . . . and being a little sad at commencement. The time has come for the Seniors to prove their capabilities to themselves and to the world. We've worked, we've learned, and we now pass on to others the Tecumseh tradition of excellence, knowing that, as always, it will be accepted and upheld with honor. An estimated 150 people attended the soup supper, which was held in the high school cafetorium. The Seniors were amply rewarded for their efforts; they made approximately $125 to contribute to tneir treasury. 14 As Activities Fill Each Day Stephen Jewell Roderick Kehlenbeck Michael Keim Gail Kerr Larry Lacey Richard Laue William Leuenberger Ruth Leuenberger Working hard, or hardly working??? It's THS Homecoming. The Tecumseh Indians zoomed past the Humboldt Cardinals 45-6 on a windswept and rained-soaked football field. The excitement of homecoming started about two weeks before in the preparing of the skits. The game Friday was preceded by a bonfire rally and a snake dance on Thursday night. First, second, and third prizes were awarded to the sophomores, seniors, and juniors at the pep rally Friday for their skits. In spite of the weather there was still an abundance of excitement before the crowning of queen Cheryl Davis and king Russ Eltiste. The festivities of this year ended with a dance with the Henchman combo playing. Crownbearers - Tyler Roberts and Janet Phillips. The Show Must Go On As the game progressed, so did the rain; the 1966 king and queen were crowned during the wet half-time ceremonies on October 14th. The king and queen were crowned by the 1965 king and queen, Lynn Campbell and Debbie Olsen. The fans remained to cheer on their victorious Indians. We also had our faithful band to peform during the half. Nothing could hinder the spirits of the ever-faithful pep club. They remained to cheer the Indians on to a big Homecoming victory. The team played their best and won by a large margin under the watchful eyes of the returning alumni. The senior team members were very pleased with the results of their last Homecoming game. 40 Queen JANICE MCCOY BILL GATES MARGY FINN BOB CURRY Sweetheart Attendants LAURA NEEMANN TOM RATHBUN MARILYN GORACKE STEVE JEWELL Alan Pieratt, Patty Mahoney, Barb Lempke, Bob Gregory, Margy Sullivan, John Graff. But, as you know, we lost it; which only goes to show you can't believe everything you hear. The Tecumseh Indians, however did show hard-earned improvement over the previous year. The Tecumseh Junior and Senior High School students enjoyed the added benefits of a new building this year. The most appreciated and widely used room was the gymnasium, which provided a large seating capacity for basketball spectators and modern conveniences for the players. Tecumseh's library facilities were available to the students for research and reading enjoyment. The business students enjoved the spacious new facilities of a combined typing and business room. The new equipment in the physics room made experiments for the physics students almost easier, or at least more enjoyable, to perform. The physics room provides much table space for physics experiments. The attractive library, with a workroom in the back, is used every hour of the school day. Crowded corridors, empty for a time, are soon filled with the bustle of a school day. 94 Impressions Through Progress 1866—The first Tecumseh school was a small frame building of which there is no picture available. District 32 was instituted later, in either 1867 or 1868. 1872—School 1 was a square, two story building of stone which was built for a total cost of $6,000. At this time there were 404 school age children in this district. . . M 1883—School 2 and the tower of brick and stone were added to the existing school building due to the growing population of this district. 1904—School 3, the brick Tecumseh High School, was built. It remained a prominent fixture of this community until it's destruction in 1966 to make room for our present parking lot. 1930—School 4 was built after the razing of the existing building, 1 and 2, for $100,000. This is the brick Junior High School building which is in existence today. 1966—School 5 is our existing $600,000 Senior High School building. We, the students of THS, wish to thank the members of the community for allowing us to become a part of the memories of this new building. 95 The doors close again on another year of school. We are each a step closer to our goals. The doors may be closed, but each of us may still hear the voice of memory call to mind the excited buzz of a basketball game, the recollective quiet of a test, the sight of students hurrying to class, books being scattered down the hall, and the lunch line moving at an infinitesimal velocity.
