AUGUSTA SCHLANGE Mrs. Schlange has been teaching English for many years, the last two of these years she has taught at Tecumseh. Besides teaching Freshman and Junior English and directing the Junior and Senior Class Plays this year she gave an excellent course in Speech. A serious operation during the latter part of the school year caused her to miss two weeks but she came back as soon as the doctors would permit it. We feel indebted to her for the spirit she has shown and has given to her students and we hope she will enjoy many more years of teaching. MRS. RUTH SORENSEN Mrs. Sorensen is the Spanish and Sophomore English teacher at T.H.S. She serves as librarian and is also a sponsor to the Sophomore Class. Nos gustamos espanol muy mucho. MRS. SUE BOYDEN This was Mrs. Boy den's thirteenth year of teaching math at Tecumseh High School. A lot of time and effort has gone into her teaching and the results are self-evident. Her generous and accommodating ways (Mother Boyden's Black Market) have endeared her to all her students. She also sponsors Pep Club. MR. D. LOUIS NIEMANN This was Mr. Niemann's first year as the head of the science department of T. H. S. He taught courses in Chemistry. General Science, and Freshman Math. Mr. Niemann also served as a Junior Class sponsor. MR. LEROY ZENTIC Mr. Zentic has completed four years of teaching at T.H.S. and has acquired a handsome record. It has been his job to teach Sophomore Biology and Phys. Ed. and serves as Head Basketball and Football Coach. He also sponsors T Club. Mr. Zentic has built four powerful football teams and his basketball teams have won the District Tournament and have gone to the State Basketball Tournament. The School is sorry to be losing such a fine person and an excellent teacher and coach. We wish him much luck in the years to come. MR. EVERETT DAVIS This was Mr. Davis' first year at T.H.S. He served as Social Science and Driver's Training teacher and Head Track Coach, where he obtained a fine record. Next year he will also assume Mr. Zentic's duty as head Basketball coach. Mr. Davis also sponsors T Club. Mr. Holinger and Mr. Engre from Peru State College both served for several weeks as student teachers under Mr. Davis. MR. LORAIN KRUEGER Mr. Kruger teaches World Geography and is the Junior High Phys. Ed. and Shop instructor and coach. He also monitors two study halls. Mr. Krueger is a Freshman Class sponsor. MR. WILFORD BROWN This year was Mr. Brown's first year as commercial teacher at Tecumseh High School. Besides teaching commercial subjects he also is the advisor to the yearbook staff. MR. JACK DODGE For the first time in several years our school has a guidance counselor. This is Mr. Dodge's fifth year of teaching but his first year at Tecumseh. As guidance counselor it is his job to help students with their class schedules for the coming year and their plans for the future. Mr. Dodge has also taught two shop classes and supervised a study hall. MRS. VIOLA HOWE This year was Mrs. Howe's third year of teaching in the Tecumseh High School system. As Home Economics teacher it is her duty to teach high school girls more about household duties such as cooking, sewing, and child care in order to broaden their backgrounds and prepare them for their roles as future homemakers. She also teaches an 8th grade Home Ec. class and the Freshman health class. She also serves as a sponsor for the Future Homemakers of America and the Junior Class. MR. DWIGHT HENG Mr. Heng is Tecumseh’s vocational agriculture teacher. Through his efforts boys interested in agriculture learn the best farming methods known. Mr. Heng also sponsors the Sophomore Class and the Future Farmers of America. 1 5 MISS MILDRED BREHM MR. ED MATSCHULLAT Miss Brehm has been the vocal music director at T. H. S. for five years and has produced many fine music groups. This year was no exception. Although the choruses could not participate in the District Music Contest all the soloists and small groups rated highly. Miss Brehm also sponsors the Y-Teens. During his first year as band instructor Mr. Matschullat has brought about a marked improvement. The several band concerts throughout the year were well attended and very enjoyable The Pep Band has also done a fine job this year. Mr. Matschullat also supervised several study halls and sponsored the Freshman Class and the Key Club. 16 a ® 3( $9Q 3« STUDE LIFE Royalty—Old and New HOMECOMING Royalty Dance Tecumseh's annual homecoming game was played on October 18, 1963, following a bonfire rally the day before. The Indians defeated Superior with a score of 20-13. During half-time Steve Waring and Ruth Bartels were crowned Homecoming King and Queen. Other candidates were: Carol Ramsey, Sandy Hunt, Joan Berner, Nancy Arnold, Rich Martin, Tom Suhr, Jim Stauffer, Mike Kavanaugh. Crownbearers were Sherry Zentic and Patrick Mahar. After the game a dance was given by the Y-Teens and Key Club in the gymnasium. Entertainment was furnished by the Star-lighters. Winning Sophomore Skit SWEETHEART DANCE February 8th was the night chosen for the annual Sweetheart dance, sponsored by the Sophomore class, and held in the band room. The Sophomore Attendants for the coronation crowned Nancy Arnold, Queen and Tom Suhr, King. Candidates for the elected royalty were: Nancy Arnold, Joan Berner, Penny Jewell, Carol Ramsey, Tom Suhr, Steve Waring, Richard Martin, Mike Kavanaugh, and Dale Holben. Freshman class attendants were Cheryl Davis and Steve Jewell. Juniors were Linda Goracke and Bob McNergney. THE SENIOR CLASS PROPHECIES Due to Steve Warings election as 42nd President the U. S. may return to the Dark Ages. Tom and Bob Burns have been hired by the Library of Congress as book ends for the world's largest encyclopedias. President J. B. Wenzl announces an increase in stock dividends in Wenzl Elevator Shoe Company. Senator T. J. Suhr of Nebraska proposes new 20 hour work week. Lacey's Renta-Hurt Car features at low terms a white '58 Ford known as The Bullet, it's shot. James Harold Stauffer opened a new barber shop on the corner of 12th Vine, known as Harry's Clip Joint. A fire wiped out Jerry Dittmer's chicken ranch at Walla Walla, Washington Friday. Over 30,000 chickens were destroyed. Saturday Mr. Dittmer invited the neighbors in for broasted chicken. Rudolph Valentino Bailey Married today for the 7th time. Pella's Vision Clinic now features the finest chrome rims. Richard A. Martin's life story has been purchased by Rod Serling to be used on the Twilight Zone. Miss Penny Jewel became head cook at T. H. S. Monday, November 9th, and by Friday the school had been wiped out with food poisoning. Margaret Taylor and Linda Holden were arrested for trying to sell pork sandwitches at a kosher Jewish Picnic. Terry Scharton was arrested for impersonating a woman. Gary Pope was arrested for impersonating a man. Wednesday was the grand opening of Friendly Ray's Bar and Grill. Gypsy Rose Ramsey will star in the Academy Award winning show The Bearskin Rug. Cyrus McCormick Kuhl has invented a one man haybailer, powered by his wife Elaine. Benny's Beauty Salon is now featuring the 10, 20, and 30 pound treatment. Kev Campbell, a forest ranger in Estes Park, has caught Smokey the Bear sneaking cigarettes behind a giant redwood tree. Shirley Kroeze has been hospitalized after being hit in the back of the head with her surfboard. Ray Anthony Ditlevson, the famous trumpet player, burst his jugular vein while blowing a high C. Claudia Graff, amateur chemist, suffered serious burns when she accidently filled her cigarette lighter with nitroglycerin. Kenneth Lintz was operated on for a rare foot disease which runs in his family, called Flat. Hen Blackjack Seawall followed in her brother's footsteps and has become a dealer in Las Vegas. Nancy Arnold has proved the theory that blondes have more fun. No details are available. Fireball Wilson has won the Indianapolis 500 in his black '56 Merc. Ruth Bartles and Sandy Hunt, recreation directors at Kirkwood Lodge, are planning a series of scenic tours through the nearby woods. Red Fats Mandery swept the National Indoor Snooker Championship. The well known mountain climber Busch Bavarian Holben has conquered Mt. Obrist. Annalee Allen has been chosen as the first woman to be sent to the moon after successfully passing the test on How to Scratch an Itch in Your Space Suit. Janet Critton, Farm wife of Roily Critton, won the blue ribbon in hog calling at the Johnson County Fair. Michael Lee Kavanaugh is being held in custody after pushing his Geometry teacher, Susie Q. Haughton, Coach Zentic BASKETBALL Pre-game Strategy For the fourth consecutive year T-Town has earned the right to participate in the state tournament at Lincoln, Nebraska. Mr. Zentic is one of the few coaches to have the distinction of having produced a tournament team each of the four years he has been coaching basketball here. The Indians wound up the season with a 13-win 9-loss record. They came within two points of being the conference champions for two straight years, but had to settle for second place. Early in the season, the Indians were rated as high as sixth in Class C competition. The season was highlighted by wins over University High and Seward-Concordia in the regionals.
