FOOTBALL For the first time in many years the Indians had a powerhouse in football. They weren’t very big, and they weren't very fast; but they combined good coaching, a tremendous new offense, and a fierce desire to win to make them the state's number two rated Class C football team. Following the season of eight wins and one loss many of the players stood out for individual acclaim. Gary Waring, the lonely end, and Larry Weyers, the scat-back halfback, were selected for all-state honors. Coach Zentic was osen to help coach the South team in the Shrine Bowl Game this summer. Six of the T-Town Indians were placed on the first team all-conference selections. The big disappointment was losing the opening game to Nebraska City. This was never forgotten although the players celebrated Homecoming by tromping Falls City 33-0, blasted Auburn 33-7, and walked away with conference honors with a record of five wins and no defeats. The second team in action against Pawnee City. 33 All the way to my toes? Yes, we did beat Falls City 33-0, but we must get ready for Humboldt. What do you mean they're exterminating birds? Ooh! After winning all but two events at the triangular meet at Table Rock, they sent the better participants to the Midland Relays. The Tecumseh Thinclads didn't set any records, but they made a good showing and learned a lot. T-Town almost won the Southeast Border Meet at Auburn, but were outclassed in the Southeast Conference Meet. Again the Indians went to Auburn and nearly won the Auburn Relays. The 440, sprint medley, and two-mile relay teams all brought home trophies. At the district meet, Coach Spear's boys finally did it. They won the meet with 44 1 2 points. Five of our trackmen qualified for the State Track Meet in Lincoln. They were Larry Weyers, Richard Martin, Terry Scharton, Bob Repp, Gary Waring, Chuck Lacey, Gary Pope, Steve Waring, and Tom Wolf.
