In the finals of the district, Tecumseh pulled away from Crete early in the game; beating them 45-29, thus sending them to the State Tournament. The first game of the State was played against No. 1 rated York, who was expected to win. The game was nip and tuck all the way and in the closing seconds Dan Wherry hit a 25 ft. jumper to pull the Indians to victory with a score of 60-58. In the semi-finals the Indians met Burwell and were defeated 54-43. The Burwell team set a gruelling first half pace which the Indians could not overcome. Wherry fires a jumper at the Burwell game. J SPEAKER'S TABLE: (1 to r) Reverend McCall, President Anderson, and Speaker Spear. Sesiivi 'Dinnesi Why not? The Senior Class held their annual Senior Dinner, December 17, 1961, at the clubhouse at the Golf Club this year. After an invocation by Reverend Donald McCall, the Seniors feasted upon a dinner of roast turkey and with the help of the faculty, nearly finished it up. The dinner was completed with dessert, ice cream and cookies, some of which was spilled on the floor by Junior waitress Dianne Gates and then stepped in by Sophomore waiter Larry Weyers. The speaker for the dinner was none other than Coach Gary Spear. The speech was mainly a combination of jokes and witty remarks. However, Coach Spear did not get all of the laughs as Coach Zentic and Reverend McCall periodically held up handkerchiefs with Don't believe it I written on them. The entertainment was furnished by a mixed octet and duet formed by members of the Senior Class. A dance followed the dinner; the music was supplied by the Larry Hall Dance Band. On route to the Ozarks, the car and the bus became separated resulting in the arrival of the bus about three hours prior to the car's arrival. Despite bad weather, there was plenty to be enjoyed the first day. The second day the weatherman was nicer and supplied us with some sunlight. Besides boating, swimming, and ping pong playing at the lodge during the day, there was bowling, horseback riding, and sightseeing to be done. At night there was dancing, and those who wanted to learn to square dance or polka were instructed. On the return trip, we stopped at Dog Patch, and some took a ride on the seaplane.
