Key Club The Key Club is a service organization for boys sponsored by the local Kiwanis Club designed to aid the community and its school. This year the Key Club has carried out several projects such as: the transportation of Linda Evans, a crippled girl in the grade school, to and from school; helping to sponsor a Halloween Parade for the grade school youngsters; giving a banquet for the parents at Christmas time; the starting of a vocation and college information file; and the planning of an educational trip to Kansas City in the spring. The sponsor is Mr. Grass, well known all over the state for his good work in Kiwanis and Key Club. FRONT ROW: Marcella Grable, Mike Leahy, Diane Gates, Jim Johns. Student Council The Student Council, under the sponsorship of Mr. Wilson, is composed of the class presidents and homeroom presidents. The aim or purpose of the group is for better cooperation between the various classes; thereby resulting in an improvement in the students' condition throughout the high school. Projects included the sponsorship of Veterans Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas programs; the introductions for lyceum programs. National Honor Society The National Honor Society members are elected by the high school faculty on the basis of scholarship, leadership, citizenship, and character. Each year there are four juniors and two seniors elected from the top 25% of their class. The FFA is a youth organization of farm boys studying agriculture in high school built upon the foundation of leadership and character development, sportsmanship, co-operation, service, thrift scholarship, improved agriculture, organized recreation, citizenship, and patriotism. The FFA chapter of Tecumseh High has been active in several fields during the 1959-60 year. They created a farm safety program, practiced land judging, built machinery for the local farmers, and completed several other community service projects. Pep Club The purpose of the Pep Club is to stimulate interest in athletics, give support to the various activities, arc! promote school spirit. Annual Staff The Annual Staff has the difficult task of gathering together pictures and line copy in order to put together the TOMAHAWK—and stay within their budget while getting everything done exactly on time so the book will be delivered on time in the spring. It is the purpose of the Annual Staff to help you brush the dust from faded pages of memory and present a vivid picture of the dim, half forgotten events of your High School days in the future. During the next two years, he was stationed in Hawaii with the Navy. After returning to civilian life. Coach Rector attended the University of Nebraska. He transferred to Peru his Junior year and received a Bachelor of Science in Education there. His major was Physical Education with minors in history and commercial. Coach Rector was on the varsity football squad at the U and played first string tackle at Peru; and received All NCC Conference honors his Senior year at Peru. Coach Rector started his teaching career at Fullerton, Nebraska, being there fouryears as assistant football and basketball and head track coach. In 1957 he accepted a position here at THS as head football and track coach and assistant basketball coach. Coach Rector is now 31 years of age and has the last two summers been taking graduate work at Peru for a Masters Degre . in Administration. Coach Ned Eckman Coach Ned Eckman was bom in Pawnee City and graduated from Pawnee City High School in 1951. He entered Peru State Teachers College in the Fall of 1951 and graduated in 1955. He lettered in football three years at Peru and received All Conference honors two years. He also lettered four years in basketball. He was a member of the Blue Devils and P Club. Coach Eckman served a two-year hitch in the Army, serving in Berlin, Germany. Coach Eckman then took a position at THS as head basketball coach and assistant football coach. He is now 26 years of age. This was a good record considering the fact that the squad was out weighed from 20 to 40 pounds per man at every game. With five returning lettermen, the varsity squad was made up mainly of underclassmen with only three seniors on the squad. There was an exceptionally balanced scoring attack by the starting five with all being within a point margin. On the afternoon of October 2nd, the classes each gave a skit and prizes were awarded for the best skits. At 7:30 on the evening of the 2nd, Tecumseh played Wymore, held the score to a tleing 0-0. Because of unfavorable weather, the coronation was held in the gym after the game. After the coronation of Marilyn Russell as Queen and Jim Johns as King, a dance was held in the gym with music by the Starlighters. County Assessor's office County Clerk's office County Government Day Every year, the Junior class is divided into twomythical political parties—Federalists and Nationalists. Members of each party runs for the county office of nis choice, giving campaign speeches and making posters. Then after the student body has voted and the officers are elected, they spend a day at the County Court House discovering new avenues of county government. During the morning session, the officers elect of Tecumseh, Elk Creek, Sterling, and Cook High Schools, are sworn into office and hear a safety talk given by a State Safety Patrolman. At noon, the meal is served in the community building and the after-dinner speaker this year was a lawyer from Syracuse. In the afternoon, the officers go to their respective offices in the Court House and the Tecumseh officers are joined by the other members of the junior class, where they learn more about the operations and proceedings of that office. County Attorney's office County Commissioner's office Junior Class Play The Junior Class produced a three act comedy called, Once In Every Family, for the public. It was the story of a hilarious weekend when Horace Brooks tried to take care of his family. His daughter and her best friend split up and each broke up with their boy friend. He got into trouble with his boss and his neighbors started a fued. To take his mind off everything, he proceeded to paper nine rooms. Bad turned worse until everything was in an uproar. During the intermission, last year's King and Queen, Darrell Kroeze and Alta Hardin crowned Merton Finke as FHA King and Eleanor Miller as FFA Queen. The attendants tc the Queen were Sharon Laue, Mery Leuenberger, ane Rosie Wilhelm. The King's attendants were Dave Little, Ed Laue and Jim Johns. The candidates were picked from the Seniors of the two organizations. The FFA members elected the Queen and the FHA members elected the King.
