Mia Trahan 1982 Basketball Queen Basketball Queen candidates Trahan Crowned While Wolverines Crushed A large crowd turned out to say, We love the Savages, and witnessed an overwhelming success as the Savages stunned the ominous Holdenville Wolverines by a score of 77-68. Culminating the homecoming festivities was the Coronation of the 1982-83 Basketball Queen, senior, Mia Trahan. Mia was crowned by senior, Steve Motley, and her court was Sabrina Kalka, Dana Etchieson, Carol Allen. Opening f 7 r W i I P ! Excitement mounted at the 1983 Wrestling Homecoming the Savages battled Sulphur Bulldogs. Capping the homecoming activities was the coronation of junior Lorie Gouker 1982- 83 homecoming queen. Being escorted by Alan Rogers and crowned by Jeff Morris her court was Vanessa Stewart, Michelle O'Bright, Vickie Vickery, Jacqueline Casey. This year's 10 semifinalists, selected from 20 original candidates, competed in the pageant held December 2, at the High School Auditorium. These 10 were judged on personal interviews, poise, and talent by 3 judges. The 5 finalists were Tammy Ballou, Janee Cran- ford, Leslie Holton, Leslie Jenks and Shirley Mitchell. Emerging victorious was Senior Leslie Holton, 1983 Yearbook Queen. I 1 I N Students learn . The curriculum at THS covers the three Rs and much more. ln this sec- tion we have tried to capture the stu- dent in his quest for knowledge and skills. After all, that is what school is all . . It was the time of romance, graduation, victories, and the agony of defeat. Many changes took place this year such as a new Yearbook coronation and a prom. VMrs. Elder, mouth always open. The Junior-Senior Banquet and Prom held at the Holiday Inn came off as planned. The invocation was led by Mark Guinn and a seafood buffet was served at the Banquet. The Remember - whens were read by Dane Tate and Brett McKnight. The Wills were read by Sherry Rutledge and Kim Wilson. The Prophecies were read by Robert Klaus and Tammy Ballou. The Hula dancers from Seminole were the entertainment for the night along with a few volunteers from the audience. The Prom was a success, with a disc jockey from Purcell and everyone enjoyed the music. After a delicious dinner, Junior Candidate, Elizabeth Harkrider was crowned FFA Sweetheart. Many awards were given to various students, by Tecumseh's Ag. in- structors, Danny Sterling, and Danny Wells. Organizations f 45 i Music salutes Hollywood Under the direction of Carolyn Daughtery, the music group presented A Salute to Hollywood , a Musical Jamboree, and performed at the state FHA Convention and the 1982 Yearbook Queen Coronation. They performed a large variety of songs from country and western to jazz. ln May the music group traveled to Enid and participated in the Tri- State Music Festival. Future Farmers keep busy schedule The 1982-83 year was a busy one for the Future Farmers of America. A few of their many activities were a potluck supper, pie supper, the annual FFA banquet, a pig roast, and the yearly Greenhand initiation. Along with these activities most members also participated in livestock and judging shows, Creed contests and Quiz contest. The FFA election for the 1983-84 year was held on April 18. Elizabeth Harkrider was chosen as the first female President of the Tecumseh FFA chapter. 4Ritchie isn't sure it will suit his taste. Student Council sparks spirit The school picnic, Operation Christmas, class competition with spirit chains and taking collections for charity were a few of the projects undertaken by the THS Student Council. The members also worked hard on their homecoming float which took third place. In February they sold carnations for Valen- tine's Day. In November Student Council officers attended the Student Council state convention held in Yukon. The Student Council members also organized the annual Awards Assembly which was held in May. 4 Don't make me laugh while l'm eating. Organizations f 57 g Small yearbook staff works hard The 1983 Yearbook staff members were few in number and inexperienced. They worked hard and tried some new and innovative ideas, along with a new Yearbook Queen Coronation. With everyone competing for funds, the yearbook staff spent a great deal of effort on fund raisers, including the sale of MEMS, t-shirts, magazines, and autograph sections. 4 Work fascinates me. Inexperienced staff produces successful paper The Spectrum staff produces the school paper, an 8-page tabloid which is published every three weeks. The 1982-83 staff was young with no senior members. Burden- ed by inexperience fonly one retur- ning staff memberj the staff managed to produce an infor- mative, interesting, and financial- ly successful paper. Besides these and other projects, Spanish Club held their meetings on the first and third Tuesday of each month where lunch was served. Several members attended a special program at East Central University dur- ing Foreign Language Week. Others traveled to OU and participated in various contests held for Pan American Day. FTA develops teaching skills One of the highlights for FTA members during the 82-83 year, was their participation in the FTA state convention. The March convention was the big- gest success for the state membership in many years. Tecumseh students won only recognition honors, but were able to help with the planning of the 1983-84 school year. Mrs. Capps was chosen as a state advisor. FCA is the greatest! 64 f Organizations FCA promotes fellowships The Fellowship of Christian Athletes had a good year playing volleyball against Youth Alive, traveling to Ada for a FCA rally, and participating in a Christmas hayride. At the beginning of the school year, FCA held weekly meetings at the field house with several dif- ferent guest speakers. Mrs. Sigman replaced Joe lnda whose term expired. The board has been busy this year consider- ing possible changes or additions in programs and facilities for the future. Two committees were formed fone for programs and one for facilitiesj to make suggestions to the board. New policies were introduced to the student body, such as the tardy policy, absence policy, and no smoking rule.
