Tecumseh High School Volume 66 Tecumseh, Oklahoma l As any school year is, 1982 was filled with many good times and memories. But it was also unique, and that is what we have tried to capture. A glance, a smile, a tear, we have tried to trap them on paper for the years ahead for you — the ones who made them happen. ... a when memories unfolded Opening 3 A Day in the Life of a THS student is far from mediocrity. Each day has its special moments, whether it be a parade downtown, a coke at lunch, whipping it up, or showing your black and gold — each day is unique. 4 Opening Cornered. .. 1982 was a year of change for many. We were all faced with ideas and circumstances that weren’t as easy to deal with as we would like them to have been. Yet we managed to make these decisions and somehow learned something from them. It’s all part of growing up, and that’s one thing that we’re all “cornered” into doing. Opening 5 When Thomas Paine said, “These are the times that try men’s souls,” He probably wasn’t talking about the time spent at Tecumseh High School. However, as trying as we sometimes find high school life, we wouldn’t have missed this year for a moment. Kissy, Kissy, Kissy There is no doubt that any year is not lacking in romance. The shutter was quick to catch a few of the more — interesting — moments. Of course, no coronation would be complete without the traditional kiss, but what were Robert Burns and Lisa Kingsbury crowning that cow? Opening 7 Indeed, all of us had to 90 through some crazy times, and they are all worth remembering. We had to dress up for the homecomings, go to the Sonic or Pizza Hut after the ball games. Hours were spent at the foot- ball field getting the plays right and to get the half-time shows right we had to report to band at 8:00 a.m. 8 Opening All the Crazy Times We Had to Go Through We were there for the meetings at noon, cheering at the pep assemblies, dancing to the music of DEVO, listening to the Oak Ridge Boys, moving the library, and asking for yet another tardy slip. We did it all, and it all made for an interesting year. Opening 9 10 Academics In addition to the usual class ac- tivities, students studied special units on satire and advertising. They also entered essay and creative writing contests and par- ticipated in writing workshops con- ducted by professional writers. Several students also attended and reviewed plays produced by OBU, ECU, and the Pott. County Produc- tion Co. H«v. over here! Wanna smooch What did you say? For the second time in three years the Seminole Chieftains denied the Savages a post- season trip to the state play-offs Excellent leadership for this team came from the nine Seniors on the squad They were: Don Alexander. Robert Burns. Steve Chlouber. Tom- my Cummings. Gary Brown. Larry Earls. Gabon Fuller. Rod Goodman, and Danny LittleAxe. 84 Sports o 85 Sports Record 1982 High School Football Tecumseh Opponent 27 Holdenville 2 0 Newcastle 41 21 Sulphur 7 18 Wewoka 15 12 Harrah 7 0 Bristow 14 21 Deercreek-Edmond 0 20 McLoud 9 0 Seminole 21 18 Henryetta 27 Floyd Moody hot In pursuit Let’s go get ’ The defense crushes McLoud 86 Sports Freshman Football Has Slow Start but Great Finish. Coach Roy Capp's Savages, with only two senior regulars, were an inexperienced but exciting and competitive team. This was indicated by the many close margins of both victory and defeat. Most importantly, the underclassmen received a lot of game experience which should improve the Savages chances of a win ning season in the upcom ing year. The 1981 82 Tecumseh wrestling team fielded a team made up of 5 seniors. 1 junior, 3 sophomores, and 2 freshmen The team had to forfeit the remaining weight classes. A team comprised of underclassmen and forfeits does not make history or rewrite the record books It can, however, exhibit all those qualities that make wrestling a great sport, and this team did. The five seniors. John Reed, Rod Goodman, Sammy White. Gary Brown, and Garton Fuller, all produced winning records and provided examples of dedication and sacrifice for the younger wrestlers. The younger wrestlers responded by giving the kind of effort required to learn and prepare for the future Measured against the standards of excitement, teamwork, and pride, this team was definitely a winner! Sports 93 Gary Brown overpowers his opponent Floyd Moody tries to keep a good man down! Freshman Boy’s Basketball Although the 9th grade boys record was somewhat disappointing. Coach Walck’s young Savages appear to have the ingredients of a com- petitive team in the years to come. Most of their losses were by less than five points and only Northwest Classen defeated the Savages by more than 9. Several of the young players are over six feet tall.
