Homemalcing Train New Minded Techites Tech's excellent industrial arts courses give students an opportunity to learn many creative skills. In the curriculum is included mechanical drawing, Automotives I and II, electricity, Woodworking I, II and III, printing, welding, and general metal. A feeling of the materials of industry and manufacturing processes is learned through work on various projects. Buyer and consumer knowledge is taught to all students taking industrial art courses. Roger Athman, Mike Goenner, agricultural students, repair a milking apparatus. Industrial Arts and Many Tech students learn homemaking skills in home economics education. Such units as food preservation and selecting fabrics prepare the students to become successful homemakers of tomorrow. The senior boys' home economics class includes basic food, clothing and health units. For all future farmers the agriculture curriculum includes the study of crops, soils, livestock, farm equipment and livestock feed. Each student taking the agriculture course participates in a farm experience program which enables the student to gain practical experience. The senior agriculture class devotes two hours a. day to farm management and farm mechanics, repair and maintenance. Romona Winter visualizes a new dress as she works in her home ec. sewing class. Louis Foote leads the way in one of the many Hlimbering up exercises in his physical edu- cation class. The Tech Students Benefit from Physical Miss Kathleen Killeen Physical Education Mr. Donald H. Klein Social Science and Physical Education Mr. Donald Nylund Physical Education Mrs. Lois Scherfenberg Physical Education Volleyball is one of the many sports enjoyed by the girls' physical education class. Because of the stress recently placed on the nationis physical fitness, phy-ed classes concentrated on body building. In addition to this, students acquired a good sense of sports- manship and many skills which can be employed for their personal recreation. Under the direction of Miss Kathleen Killeen and Mrs. Lois Scherfenberg, the girls' classes enjoyed such sports as basketball, volleyball, badminton, swimming and speed- ball. Tennis and archery were added to the program this year. Mr. Donald Klein and Mr. Donald Nylund coached the boys' phy-ed activities. The boys developed skills in such fields as basketball, touch-football, gymnastics and softball. They also received instruction in recreational ac- tivities as volleyball, badminton, archery and go f. Co-educational dancing was again part of the program. At the end of this unit students displayed their folk-dancing ability at half- time during a basketball game. All sophomores were automatically en- rolled in a first-aid course. Students passing the requirements received certificates.
