ORGANIZATIONS The gavel banged three times . . . the clamoming voices slowly quieted . . . and the meeting had officially begun. Order of business today concerns the conduct in the school halls. Are there any suggestions or opinions from the floor? The chair recognizes Big Joe. Well, the way I see it . . . all this fuss has been caused by the underclassmen . . . you know, sophomores and juniors. Course we seniors wouldn't think of running in the halls or even hurrying to reach the lunch line. After all, we're the example-setting class of the school. You know . . . always obey the rules and regulations! Mr. President, we must stop the running in the halls, but we certainly can't punish just the sophs and juniors. VVhy don't . . . And the discussion goes on . . . and on . . . and on. Mr. President, Ivmove we table this discussion until we have further evidence as to what group is the direct cause. Motion carried . . . and the meeting is adjourned. Hey fellas don't you think the blame should be placed upon those juniors and sophomores? Sure, Big Joe, Natch, we seniors just don't do things like that . . . always obey the rules, that's our motto! Suddenly the door opened and a voice distinctly yelled inside, Hey, Joe, Ethics Committee meets tomorrow morning . . . don't forget your theme!

Under the capable leadership of president, Ken Lacherg vice-president, Judy Gustafson, secretary, Gretchen Boatmang and treasurer, John Millerg student council took care of problems confronting the student body. Serving the school as a working democracy, the student council aimed at maximum pupil participation in school activities, the promotion of school activities, and the encouragement of loyalty, friendliness, and fair play. One of the council's first major projects of the year was familiarizing sophomores with the routine of school life. The Orientation and Handbook committees published Said and Done a pocket-sized book giving information on activities and happenings throughout the year. Apple For The Teacher Day sponsored by the council was a Tech first. During National Education Week, a special day was set aside to honor the Tech faculty. Teachers received gifts ranging from gaily decorated apples to apple pies, seeds and cider. With the aid of the student body this event proved to be a big success.
