Senior Class l'llstory Y the morning of September 4 1934 221 semor boys and girls the largest class in the schools history resumed their studies in their final year of work and play at Tech Three years ago as fresh sophomores the seniors of 35 under the guidance of Eldin Schultz Lorraine Lagergren and Jennie Hemer had a very successful year Much interest was taken in band orchestra glee club declamatlon and mixed chorus Athletlcs was well represented in the activities by the sophomore class too with Marvm Potthoff winning a football letter Eldln Schultz a letter in basketball and Harold Jacobs and Bob Aidem letters in track Returning to school in the fall of 1933 the Juniors elected Richard Fouquette Ione Molin and Jennie Hemer as their officers The Masquers initiated into their club eleven Jumor dramatists John Boehm won the district declamation contest in the humorous d1v1s1on Kenneth Barrett Barbara Wedge and John Boehm were elected to the Quill and Scroll in the spring Athletics held quite an interest for Junior boys with Harold Jacobs Phllllp Lang Eldm Schultz Marvin Potthoff and Howard George winning awards in football Clarence Gohman Marvin Potthoff and Ph1ll1p Lang playlng on the basketball team and Harold Jacobs Bob Aidem George Mlnkel Andrew Vavricka Lawrence Kuffel Marvin Potthoff and Jerome Sauer winning track letters As an appropriate ending to a successful year a Jumor Ball was held It was a very successful affair and was enJoyed by all who attended Upon beginning their senior year of high school the class elected as its pilots Richard Fouquette Kenneth Barrett lone Molin and Earl Henning These officers had been active in school affairs durmg the first two years of high school and were therefore very capable and well deserving of their offices Bacon Miss Margaret McNaughton and Miss Mary Ellen Fink the Masquers pre sented several one act plays in the casts of which were many seniors Dolores M1elke Fern Schiedlnger Gladys Tlrrell Eldln Schultz Eunice DeLay and Walter Telgen were voted into the chapter of Quill and Scroll Fifteen girls were elected to the T N T club and ten boys to the P T Antomette Hunn and Eldin Schultz were chosen presidents of the respective clubs Lorrame Moog and Bernadette Potthoff were elected into the Hec Tec Club Lnder the leadershlp of Jennie Hemer the G A A admitted several new semor mem bers Led by Capta1n Harold Jacobs the football team had an undefeated season Senior boys winning awards on the football team this year include Captain Jacobs Ph1l1p Lang Marvin Potthoff Howard George John McCann William Lux and Bob Aldem Nlot to be outdone by the football team the basketball squad under the leader ship of Captain Clarence Gohman was undefeated during the season and won the district championship by winning four straight games The team defeated Willmar 1n the first game of the regional tournament but was defeated by Minneapolis Edison in the Ch2.IDplOIlSh1p game Senior boys on the basketball squad included Captain Gohman Philip Lang Eldm Schultz Wllllam Lux Marvm Potthoff Donald Hollander and John McCann Hockey a new sport at Tech also had a very successful season Senior boys on the team lncluded George Minkel Loren May Howard George John Lang Arthur Poirier Ray Sltzman Wallace Johnson and Harold Jacobs In the contest sponsored by the Ways and Means committee of the Techoes Virginia Braun was chosen as the Techoes Queen Headed by Valedictorian Laverne Steckling and Salutatorians Marie Llntgen and John 'Nelson a group of 77 honor students composed the honor roll Clarence was the t1tle of the class play successfully given by the class The principal speaker at the commencement exercises was Superintendent Carroll R Reed of the Minneapolis Public Schools A . y , . . , 7 . 4 I 7 I I I, , I I y I , I , y I v Y I l . : z . . f I .
