DEDICATION Mr. Thomas McDonough In February, 1983, Technical High School lost one of its most honored faculty members, Mr. Thomas McDonough, through retirement. Mr. McDonough, a drafting instructor, will be missed by his fellow staff members and the students who knew him at Tech. Mr. McDonough was born and raised in Worcester, Massachusetts. He graduated from Fitchburg State College where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Education. At Springfield College he received a Masters degree in Education. Mr. McDonough also attended the University of Connecticut for a time. Mr. McDonough worked in industry and two other school systems (Worcester and East Longmea- dow) before he came to Springfield. In Springfield he taught at Buckingham and Duggan Junior High Schools before becoming a member of the Tech family in 1963. He will end his teaching career having served twenty years at Tech. He was known and always will be known as a fair and compassionate man. These qualities made him a well liked teacher among the student body. Mr. McDonough is ending his twenty-eight year career of teaching, but he always will remember them because of the many acquaintances that he met. The greatest problem that Mr. McDonough now faces is time. He plans to spend most of his time traveling and doing all of the things that one never seems to have time to do while caught up in one’s career. The Yearbook Staff, on behalf of the Tech family, would like to extend good luck, peaceful days and an easy life to Mr. McDonough. We hope that whenever spare time seems to be in abundance that he will reminisce about the years that he taught at Tech. Good Luck!!! Stephanie Murchison

THE CITIZENS SPEAK ... The issue of whether or not to build a new high school in Springfield has been a major concern of the city’s citi- zens for over a decade. However, in December of 1982, the voters voiced their opinion in a special referendum vote, and Springfield will open the doors to a combined Classical Techni- cal High School in September, 1986. This high school will be located at Blunt Park. Technical High School The Blunt Park site of the new high school ales) ee apt f ; as + ie pi yt oe Y i aS ae rs Classical was built before 1900. Technical was built in 1906, and two later additions ac- comadated the growing popula- tion. However, we now are 17 years away from the year 2000, and the city should provide its youth with updated technological studies. Granted, those of us presently enrolled at Tech will not be part of this new school. How- ever, those who enter this new building will be given a great start and preparation for the new cen- tury.
