Mr. Ledger is a graduate of Holy Cross Prep School, St. Michael's in New Jersey and the University of Massachusetts. In addition to teaching in Hopkins and New Salem Academies, Mr. Ledger has taught in Paris and Poitiers, France. While abroad, he visited most of the western countries in Europe. In his spare time, Mr. Ledger enjoys going roller skating, play- ing tennis, and listening to music. Also new at Tech is Mr. Leonard Melanson, re- cently graduated from Westfield State Teachers College. He is in the Tech Science Department as a chemistry teacher. A native of Westfield. Mr. Melanson now lives there with his wife and little daughter, Ann Marie. Hunting and fishing are his favorite hobbies, though he enjoys watching football, basketball, and baseball games. New to the Math Department is Mrs. Eunola Hederman, who taught math here ll years ago. She is a Vermont native and a firm Tech fan and enjoys both the students and advanced subject matter to be found at Tech. In the Tech Math Department we find Mr. Wil- liam Kennedy, Jr., a graduate of Fitchburg State Teach- ers' College. Before coming to Tech. he taught five years in a Long Island school system and then one year at Duggan Junior High. Mr. Kennedys pastimes are hunting, fishing, and horseback riding. Also in the Math Department is Mr. Herbert Doer- fler, who comes to Tech from the Smith Vocational School in Northampton. Previous to teaching in North- ampton, he taught in the Boston public schools. Mr. Doerfler, a native of Hyde Park, Massachusetts, is a graduate of Boston College and Ford University, His hobbies are bowling and golf. Miss Frances Hefner, new to the English Depart- ment, comes to us from Augsburg, Germany, where she taught in a U.S. Army Department School, her base for travel throughout Europe. Already she's convinced that she'll enjoy teaching at Tech. I seem to find everyone very friendly and the students all eo-operative, she says. Relaxing to records completes with swimming and skating her favorite leisure time activities. A new member of the language department is Mrs. Fein who was here last year as a substitute teacher. Mrs. Fein received her B.A. from Smith College as well as her M.A. from Columbia. and has studied at the University of Mexico. She has been a French and Span- ish translator in the Foreign Department of a New York bank. as well as a Spanish interpreter for official guests of the State Department from Latin American countries. She has also been employed by a private organization that works with the World Health Organ- ization of the United Nations in public health programs in Latin America. In her leisure, Mrs. Fein enjoys swimming. tennis, and listening to music. Another new teacher is Miss Joan Cormack. who is teaching freshman World History. Miss Cormack received her degrees from the University of Massachu- setts and Springfield College. Before coming to Tech. she taught at East Longmeadow and Hampden Junior High Schools. During the summer. Miss Cormack en- joys camping and bicycling. Teaching freshmen English is Mrs. Anna Shannon who may be remembered by some Techites as a sub- stitute here last year. She has also been conducting adult education English classes for twenty years. Mrs. Shannon received her degrees from Westfield State Teachers' College and the University of Massachusetts. Outside school. Mrs. Shannon devotes most of her time to her husband and two teen-aged children. However. she does find time to square-dance. golf. and bowl, New teachers not in picture: From Marietta. Georgia comes Miss Upshaw. new to the Gym Department. She has previously taught for I3 years at Wesleyan College: Macon. Georgia. Miss Upshaw holds degrees from Concord College and the George Peabody College for Teachers. both in Georgia. Sports is not only her occupation. but her hobby also. A new member of the Tech Home Economics De- partment is Mrs. Alice Gordon who may be familiar to many girls as she has been a substitute at Tech in the past. She is a graduate ol' the Boston School of Domestic Science and has furthered her education at Yale, New York Universitv. Cornell, and the University of New Hampshire. Mrs. Gordon was formerly the head of the Home Economics Department in Bradford Con- necticut. Her hobbies? Home Economies is my job and my hobby, New Teachers
